I bought 2 from Amazon.com for my 96 4Runner SR5 but was very surprised that the filter was white and not yellow. I called Fram about this and was told depending on where the filters were made the color could be white or yellow in a black frame. I should smell the filter and run my finger over it and if it smelt like oil and was slick it was a tough guard filter. Checking back on Amazons site i found a filter with the same model number that was white but didn't say it was a tough guard or oiled. I don't know what to think because the filter is much thicker on this new white one than the yellow one in my car for a year now. Neither have the metal mesh fence shown on the box but the filter showen isn't mine. This new one does have a oil smell on it also it says on the filter it was made in Mexico. I read him all the numbers from the frame and he said it was a new production line filter so what do you think? Does anyone else use these brand & kind of filter?
