So after going to Autozone to figure out this check engine light issue, It gave me a code of 1450 (?, I think), which according to the Autozone detail said something to the effect of...

1. Catalytic Converter
OR
some other crap

WTF. IM MAD. THERES A RECESSION WHO HAS THE MONEY FOR A FREAKIN' CATALYTIC CONVERTER

So how many miles on the vehicle? If under 80k should be fully covered by the emissions systems warranty (probably 100k if in Calif).

You dont need a new cat on 2003. Those designed to last life of a car. There are many things that can set ECU off. Try to tighten the gas cap or replace it if worn. Id start checking simple stuff off first.

I have about 71K.

I never thought about the emissions warranty. I'll check that today.

Catalytic converter on my 1999 4Runner

Just got back from the dealer and they want $3590 for the following:

Diagnose code PO420, catalytic converter below threshhold, front A/F sensor out of parameter, rear oxygen sensor out of parameters

Took it in because my check engine light came on after I filled the tank on a mountain trip (7500 ft)

Any insight or previous experience story appreciated as well as comments on the cost.

Thanks
