Free/Cheap traction mods

I gotta quick question.......looking for free/cheap traction mods like the ATRAC button mod in the FJ's and yellow wire mod in the Taco's for my runner.


I have an 06 limited sport with DAC, 4wd, center diff lock, and the brake booster that drives 2nd gen ATRAC. Is it wired for ATRAC? Can I put in a switch and it work like the FJ's?

No...I do not have a button for ATRAC. I do not have a button for VSC. Who said something about a rear locker?



I'm new to 4 runners, but in Tacoma's you can do something called a yellow wire mod and get TRAC in 4 lo. and in the FJ cruisers all you have to do is add a ATRAC button and you have ATRAC. is this the same for the 4 runners?

did u read any of the links i posted? this one explaines 4r 4wd system http://www.toyota-4runner.org/general-discussions/12-01-up-4wd-system-trac-vsc-torsen-t-3-a.html u will see that with the 4r atrac is already working, no need for a button to turn it on. on the newer fj i believe the atrac button can used to turn it off when using a rear locker. the hack was used on the older fj. http://www.ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43236

My understanding is the same as chaz, being new to 4Runners myself I did a lot of reading about the mods you mention and came to the conclusion that Toyota designed our systems quite well. Once I learned how to drive my truck I stopped considering any mods. Coming from full manual operation of an older Land Cruiser there was some serious re-learning to drive with all the electronic stuff we have. Unless you're adding lockers or want to do cookies I say leave it alone and enjoy.

Yes, been scrolling through them for a while......

so ATRAC is always on even in 4lo with the center diff locked? Looks like I need to wheel the runner a little more instead of the Taco to see how the system works.

yup, I'm coming from a full manual 06 Tacoma with air lockers.........this electronic traction control is something new for me as well.

yea, this is my fist vec. with the electronic nannies too. if u think u need more traction lock the center diff., it also turns off vsc so the powers not cut back, or u could do the vsc off mod. The key is to let the truck do its thing woth the traction control by keeping it under 2k on obstacles. All the noises you'll hear are normal though take some getting used to. Once you start up an obstacle you'll hear and feel the traction shift as needed. Once you get that it'll start to come together and make sense. At least that's how it was for me and now I wouldn't go back. I should add that I also no longer do the stuff I would with the solid axle and lockers.
