Fresh/recirculate cabin air issue

Don't know if I have the "flesh" option on my 4R but I do have the "fresh" setting. :biggrin2:
It sometimes depends on the outside air temp. The hotter it is, the "auto" setting will initiate the recirculate button to try to keep the cabin cooler. If it is cooler out or cold enough for the heat, the auto setting usually defaults to the fresh air setting.

Yeah, I had to check this thread, just to make sure it wasn't a spammer of "porn". Glad to see we are talking about 4Runners.
I am not sure why it reverts to recirculate, but it does it with me too. It does not do that in my 3rd gen.

So why after driving it for awhile it goes back to recirculate. I look down and I see that it is changed, so I change it back and well, it goes back to recirculate. It really ticks me off, of course the whole ventilation control sytem ticks me off. It does cool down and heats up great, but the controls are crap, IMHO.

ive never heard of the system kickin it from fresh air to recirc on its own...just vice versa. usually (while driving) it'll kick over to defrost if the system has a cabin pressure sensor and the pressure is up too high or if you turn it to the defrost position than the recirc shuts itself off. but never the other way around. it may have something to do with the "auto" feature and the a/c. normally thats all you would need the recirc for anyways so it may come on for that. only thing i can think of.

I like mine on "fresh" 10% of the time, the remaining 90% I like it on "flesh".:lmao: I just got in the habit of cycling the recirc/fresh button once. If you cycle, after start-up, it'll stay in "fresh" unless you push "auto" again (or shut the car off).
I understand the "why" of it but I don't like it:cry2:

I agree that its self-setting has to do with the difference between interior and exterior temp. Say I keep my temp setting at 72º (even for "vent" not with A/C on). Say I get into my ride in the morning and it is 74º, the system comes on with Fresh air...But say I get into the truck that afternoon, the outside temp is 90º - then the system powers up to Recirc, automatically.
Scenario 2 - Regardless of where the interior temp is set, if you get in and start lowering it (with or without A/C) and the spread between the outside and inside temps reaches a certain point (that I've never actually tried to figure out) the system will shift from Fresh to Recirc automatically.
I agree with CJ3, if it comes on with Recirc enabled, or Recirc comes on while you're curising, usually just disabling once (per car startup cycle) will put it into manual mode and it won't change back until you've turned off/restarted the vehicle.
The "auto" Recirc setting-on-temp-change and the nav system's habit of defaulting back to the NAV screen after backing up (using the rearview camera) or taking a bluetooth phone call, are my 2 pet peeves with my T4R. I just wish it would default to "last screen" so it could go back to my audio screen and not dump me right into the nav map every time...Both are very minor issues, and those are my only 2 real issues...so I don't complain much about it.

Ohhh shit did you nail it right on the head! This is the only 2 things I hate, oh and having to hit the unlock button twice to unlock the rear doors.

Next time you go to the dealer have them program the locks to unlock everything with one push...
That thing about the nav/reverse thing is interesting. It's amazing that affects the climate control! My SR5 doesn't have the OE nav so I just learned new stuff, cool:bigok:

THANKS I didnt know they could do that, I guess I should of asked when I had my DT running lights turned off. Bringing her in in 2 weeks for oil and Sirius install and now to get that dumb option turned off. I really wish they could turn off that NAV defalt screen also. Thanks again.
On cars with manual A/C controls, the book always used to tell you on to change the control from fresh air to recirculate when it's warm outside because the recirculated air will cool faster. If you keep trying to cool off warm outside air, it will take longer to lower the temperature inside the car. The auto climate control system is just following the book!

As air is moving through the a/c evaporator the moisture in the air will stick to the evaporator leaving dryer, cooler air out the vents. As the air gets recycled more moisture is pulled out. Dryer air is easier to cool. Also your less likely to get a mildew smell from the a/c you let it run in recirc. My sr5 switches all the time but it doesn't bug me.

i like how the thread title says flesh. i thought only ferrari's or lambos had a flesh setting
