friendly reminder about spare

Hey, in case you're real lucky like me and have never had a flat, you may want to check your spare tire mount if you're using the factory location underneath. I was installing my hitch (I run 31.5 x 10.5 x 15 and it fit just fine, Curt Hitch) and had to lower my spare to do so of course. I realized no. 1) that I am missing a piece of the crank handle used to lower the spare (the set is like 45.00 at the dealer) and no. 2) the whole mechanism was rusted and seized up. I took the opp. to clean it all real good, grease the cable, rod and joints and lube everything so I don't have to worry about it if I DO have a flat. Oh and the spare was like brand new but flat! No air! I feel like I dodged one...A larger tire would not fit under there now though.

I also went with the plastic radiator for a replacement. It went in easily and I did research. You CAN repair them supposedly, like a brass one, you just use zip ties and a soldering iron to do it. Hopefully I will get good service out of it. It was 100.00. Carry on mates...

Can somebody post the pictures of the spare tire assembly, I mean what it needs to hold the tire and the tools u need to operate it. I bought mine damaged so it came with no bumper brackets, no rear bumper, no spare tire, or the assembly that holds it. I can only see a bolt/rubber piece that freely rotates and twists under the truck thats about it

Excellent advice, I ran into this a couple of weeks ago when I went to check my spare tire air pressure. Found out I was missing the needed piece to lower the spare. then I found out that the whole assembly was pretty much rusted together, nearly welded. Reminds me that I need to revisit that, soon.

I have a shot of mine when the body was off. I also added a few shots of jack local, the long jack rod, and tool pouch.
I restored all of the spair tire stuff, the tire fall, jack, and jack tools. Mine too was rusted solid..
