so I was away and i got robbed, tools over many many years of what i needed and used, some nearly new....like a 2 year old 20m ton press and the "good" rear bearing tool, also prob near 1k of parts i had gotten for a full suspension, brakes restoration and timing belt and vc gaskets this summer. they took it all.
my deductable is 2k on what I can prove...who has tool receipts over a few years...let alone a life time.
fricking a-holes.....hope the have an overdose and crap out....frickin a holes.
cops...who were nice ...told me its gone and wont be sold or pawn shopped anywhere near here

I understand and can relate. Robbery about 10 years ago happened to us. Tools that I had since I was young. We eventually replaced most but not the same. Memories attach to certain tools if used extensively.

I feel your pain. I take my work truck home everytime I'm oncall. I take my expensive equipment in the house, but don't take all my tools in. My truck has been broken into multiple times. Definitely over $10k worth of tools so far, and there is nothing I can do to stop it, unless I'm outside watching it 24/7. SF bay area "bipping" is what they call it, is a serious issue here. Criminals are not afraid to get caught because they know it's just a minor misdemeanor.

First i had to deal with druggies, then homeless idiots, and vandals that broke into my vehicle 5 times and now carjackings at gun point.

I won't get all political so I won't go there but here is a photo of what happen tonight.....



Here is a photo of the cops chasing 2 gunman outside my door, after trying to rob my neighbor at gunpoint of her vehicle after she came home a few hours ago. They caught 1 of the gunman, but the other is still on the loose. The cops told me to stay inside, I'm like whatever, i see this all the time now. They laughed and said, "yup, its the new normal." Fyi, My 4runner is at the very left of the picture.

Anything I said about armed car jackings and Self Defense concerning this would sound political. Every State has different laws, customs, norms ect.

However, I will say that I will not be a victim or statistic.

As far as insurance is concerned, what I do is take photos of all my tool box drawers along with shop photos of anything of value and document that because I don't have itemized receipts for everything.

I'll update that over the years as needed. I will help the adjuster pay out when it comes to claims time.

Glad I live in an isolated, rural area. However, I do religiously lock my vehicles and my home. And it’s legal to be armed where I live.

Yes, and I would add that knowing/having a good idea how your local prosecutor/Da will react to a DGU is important too. Here in SC they are called Solicitors. (which is weird I know)

My point being that if you are totally justified, totally had no choice, you may beat the charge and the prosecution knows that they can't get a conviction from a jury, but you're 'taking the ride'. The process (ride) is the punishment for daring to think your life is worth defending.
