From 2H to 4H

Today we got some light powder so I switched over to 4H. On the dash the green 4wheel light begins to blink as does the differential lock light. 8-10 seconds later the 4wheel light goes solid and the differential light goes out as they should.

Now, should it take 8-10 seconds to engage the 4H or is the blinking not a good indicator? My friend says it should be instant because, say, it was an emergency? 8 secs is a lot. True... He also went into detail of what

Yes, it can take that long. However there are some tricks to get it to engage much faster. The reason for the delay is that the gear teeth need to line up to engage the front and rear drive wheels.
