From one Toyota to another

Hello everyone, I guess you can consider this my intro/start of my slow build thread..

Everyday for the past month and a half I have been searching craigslist for a 4Runner to use as a daily driver while also using it for occasional fishing/camping trips. Friday night, after coming home from work, I FINALLY found one with everything I wanted… Black, 4 Wheel Drive, and low mileage, while staying under my budget. The car was located about 2 and half hours away in bakersfield so I immediately called and told the owner to hold the car for me till morning. Saturday morning, woke up at 6AM and started my journey and by noon, I was back at home with my new car. Sweet.

So here she is.

the previous owner failed to mention what was underneath the hood when I spoke with her over the phone friday night...

Factory installed TRD supercharger

Future plans right now are to get all the maintenance items done first, and repair whats not working (various little things here and there)

Oh, and if anyones curious.. It has 113xxx miles. Comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated :driving:

The sellers original asking price was $6800obo. After arriving and inspecting the truck, I noticed the passenger fender looked like it was repainted even though it had a clean title so I bargained with her, pointed out every chip and scratch, acted like I was no longer interested and ended up taking it home for $5500... :banana:

I buy and sell cars quite a bit, its my job. Getting that car for under 6k... its pretty unbelievable in southern California. Either you're not seeing something, or the lady who sold it is really dumb.

My rule of thumb is that if its too good to be true, then its probably to good to be true. But, if it was really listed at 6800, that makes sense.

Anyone who would offer me $1300 off my asking price, Id tell them to get the hell of my property. Luckily you got someone mentally off though. HAHA.

i freakin hate you, lol, no really great buy man hell of a catch, i bought my 99 with 130k for 8k, you stole that thing. I would suggest the cheaper mods first usually easy and pretty cool to do, satoshi grille, interior light upgrades, led tails, and others, then move on to the really good stuff, some 285's, ome 861, tundra struts upfront or straight lift coils, sliders, front winch bumper, and then just go crazy man, enjoy the runner, it should bring years of fun and reliability, keep us all posted on your build

I dont think she realized what she had since she never mentioned anything about it. I just saw it when I popped the hood to inspect the motor.

The car is nowhere near perfect.... reason for the low price. Ripped/cracked front seats, pealing dash, rear passenger window doesnt roll down, rock chips all over the front end and various parts of the body, minor dents here and there, the list can go on.

After doing some more inspecting under the hood today, I have VERY sad news..

it looks like somebody tried sealing a boost look of some sort and did a HORRIBLE job. Its covered in a silicone type sealant

If I saw that the day I picked it up, I probly would've passed on the truck Only thing I can do now is suck it up and repair it. Even though the truck is running perfectly normal, I just cant stand knowing that it looks like that. I plan on removing the whole supercharger unit to change out the oil this weekend and I will probly try to scrape off the silicone and assess the damage. Wish me luck

Chino Hills. Im actually in Mission Viejo/ Ladera Ranch quite often, it would be cool to know a local 4Runner owner :thumb3:
