I have a 90 and a 91 4runner and both have had the same issue for years. Hard starting after sitting for about 20 minutes after normal driving. Of course, it wouldn't ever happen when I'd bring them somewhere to try to diagnose! Both have the V6 engines. Never had the check engine light come on either until recently. The engine will crank over great, but stutters and spits until eventually starting and will run rough for a few seconds while I work the gas pedal! I'm confident I am not the only one who has experienced this. I love these rusty old trucks! The 91 has had a Western 7.5' plow on it and has been taking care of my (and friends) driveways for years, and the 90 I bought as a dealer demo in April of that year. Any help with this pesky problem will be greatly appreciated.

Mine did that for about 2months with a little white smoke and sweet smelling exhaust which I knew a blown HG was on its way.
The only other thing it might be in your case is leaking injectors causing it to flood during startup. Just my .02

yeah, they both do the same thing. as far as the HG's, I never had any problems. They both went in to Toyota for the HG recall thing years back. That amazed me that Toyota actually fixed the problem regardless of mileage! Both had well over 100k at the time. I can see the injector leak as a possibility. Hot engine, leaking fuel, about 20 minutes after driving the fuel builds up and if I try to start later on, by that time it's evaporated so no problem. Is there a fix other than replacing injectors?
