From traditional rods & customs to a 4x4 4Runner

I hate to imagine how long these incorrect spark plugs have been in service...new Toyota plug on the right.

As I always say, ignorance knows no bounds. Or is that hypocrisy? Hehe

On a lighter note, I love those wheels man, are they real beadlocks?

Tune up complete...and she won't start! Research leads me to think starter contacts, only time will tell. Any reason not to use a Napa brand rebuild kit? I'm short on time and need this rig running by Thursday June 4th.

If you're wondering what happened with the starter contacts...I couldn't find them in stock locally with the time crunch I had so I swapped in a lifetime starter from my local O'reilly.

Bringing this thread back from the dead as I have (what I assume to be) a driveline clicking/ticking while driving. Researching the forum this morning leads me to believe that I need to start my disgnostic/service work by greasing my U-joints to see if the situation improves, and if it does, I suppose I should plan to replace the U joints. I do not believe this to be a flex plate issue, and I believe a wheel bearing would whine instead of click/tick/knock. The sound increases and decreases with the speed of the vehicle. I'll double check the lug nuts, wheel center caps, and then go from there. Any other suggestions? I've got a serious itch for a 5th gen 4x4 so this old girl and I may just part ways later this year.

Rocks in tires? Grease the Ujoints and see if that helps.
I used to live in Seabrook /Taylor Lake Village area and Clear Lake for about 10 or so years.
Have a lot of friends that are "traditional hot rod" guys in that area as well. Are you familiar w/ the Highway Horrors CC? Any way, clean 4Runner and hope you figure out the issue.

If the clicking noise only occurs while moving, then it's something with the drive train (ujoints, slip yoke, bearings ect). Greasing the fittings is a good idea first since even if it is not the source, it never hurts to squirt some fresh grease in. Watch Tim's video on how to properly clean and grease the slip yoke.

If the clicking noise is happening while you are stopped, it could be the flex plate.

Could be something as simple as the dust shield on the rotors hitting.

I know a few of the HH guys...Tim used to do all of my powdercoating work before he moved to the north side of Houston, small world!

On another note, I did have a leaking rear wheel brake cylinder several months back so I went in an installed new cylinders/pads/drums/hardware. I'll open up the brakes and take a look inside.

Greased the u joints with no change in symptoms. I have a sneaking suspicion that it may be a front CV...guess it's time to start reading about diagnosing the issue and replacing axles if necessary. If anyone reading this is hip to the latest axle recommendations, I'd certainly ly appreciate the info! My T4R only sees 3-5k miles a year, if that, and it doesn't get wheeled hard at all, so anything mid grade and reliable should work just fine.

Serviced the rear differential and ordered new cv axles for the front. Should I replace the differential oil seals, even if they aren't leaking? If so, are they available aftermarket?
