Have you ever seen this done before? Because idk how it would look since the body lines and the fenders are a little different. Also what are you going to do about your blinkers since in the 06+ models dont have the blinkers in the bumper?

I think this might be more work than its worth. Fenders, Turn Signal/Fogs, most likely need to paint unless you get lucky with a white one, and then cross your fingers that you are happy with it when its done. If you are hell bent on this, I can suggest you head to a local Toyota Recycler (using 'local' as a loose term) and see what you can find. You probably need the fenders too and it would be best to get the stuff from a Recycler in order to get all the other parts in a complete package.

I don't know about the grill/hood but you may be okay

I have a white 05 and wasn't educated enough on the difference in an 06 until it was too late lol. I want the tail lights and would love a fake scoop hood. But I ain't doing it unless I find good deals. Otherwise, I feel like I am spending too much to get so little.

the truck was redesigned as a body of work, not in bits and pieces. think about it. but not too hard.

Don't know what you were trying to say but if you are trying to make fun of people's aptitude or thought process....you shouldn't leave such a simple minded statement. If you have some knowledge to enlighten us with, please do so. Otherwise, you comment was mis-directed and belittling for no reason but to type words through the keyboard.

I am sure that the doors /windshield are the same. And I am also pretty sure the hood/grill is the shame fitting shape. I figure the difference (like I stated earlier) is the fenders/bumper. He'll need to do a blinker relocation mod and the wiring shouldn't be too hard.

jim, there are still blinkers in the head lamps
 
Its more involved than just swapping out the bumper. Fog lights, grill, headlights wiring all need to be changed to swap over the front end. Better off buying all the needed parts at a junkyard and painting to match.

Not to mention the two styles will clash. Early 4th gens are edgy whereas the later ones are more rounded off.

What OTHER curves are you speaking of??? Tail lights are a little different but nothing in terms of curvature. The actual cab of the SUV.....same. So what's the difference "IF" the conversion is done???
 
the oem hood and rear light swap will cost ya $2K easy if done properly from the toyota factory bin.

sure you can ebay parts the crap outta your car, but eventually you're going to have to get all four fenders figured out, installed, painted + bumper fitment, finish, paint plus the rear spoiler to match the more bulbous look of the refreshed unit.

add all this up plus time, plus transport, plus days you won't have your truck to commute in and what you get is a stupid way to spend your money since it'll add net ZERO value to the resale of your 4r. in fact, it'd be much smarter to sell the current truck and just buy a mk2 4th gen. else it'll be a frankenstein.

yea, simple minded. think about it

but hey correct me if i'm wrong and GO GITER DONE instead of speculating the crap out of it online. post pics puleeeze.

And, yes, you spoke of two ways to get it done. Toyota would send unpainted stuff too. And aftermarket fitment sucks when it comes to body parts. So both of the options you addressed would need paint. In my first post, I too said the conversion was more work that it worth I also gave the option of a recycler who could get him OEM parts and maybe he would get lucky and find a white set from a 4Runner who was totaled from behind. Other wise he would need paint but fitment would be more true than going aftermarket....less work and time. A recycler would cost no more than $300 for the bumper and I am guessing $150 for the fenders. My $$$ numbers come from dealing with recyclers for years to replace parts (with used OEM) on my old car turned into track car and helping a variety of friends who got into fender benders throughout the years. I am not saying this adds value but if he truly wants to upgrade.....its possible and can be done for under $1K painted by a reputable shop. He would need to take stuff off and fit the new stuff but it could get painted in two stages. All the inside stuff and jams first then he re-install it and have the outside done last. I am also not saying this is an easy task for everyone. I have fitted body panels since I was a kid and turning things into Frankensteins for many years too. So, in terms of the OP's actual question....yes, I think it can be done.

it's like no sh!t sherlock anything can be done with enough $ and little cents if u get my drift.

it makes no sense at all to do this mod. you're dumping a bunch of money and time into making a 4runner... into another 4runner of the same gen? LOL and when you go to sell, you tell the person yea i spent a lot of time searching high and low at the local recycler parts bin to get this frankenstein done. :frog:

again, if you want the refreshed look, sell your existing one and get a nicer newer one. EZ.

this type of "project" makes me want to ask: "WHere do you come from? what are you thinking?"

this is the most absurd thing i've heard someone want to do unless we had a dude who posted about a repaint of their 4r to all pink cuz it's the wifey's fav color. :trophy:

money would be much better spent on a lift, tires even add the oem sport hood to it if u have a limited. like i did. and damn it looks gooooooood.

The Original Poster made this thread because he had a question he wanted to share. You decided to express your opinion about how someone else spends their money, questioned the sanity of someone who would do this, and have been, overall, unpleasant. I do not know why you feel the need to bash others but I wish you well and no hard feelings.
 
I have 2004 T4r

I bought a black '06 front bumper to replace my current bumper which is dented pretty bad from previous owner. Is this going to work or did I waste $80?

The '06 bumpers don't have the turn signals like your '04 bumper.
They're also shaped a bit differently due to the grille.

All is not lost though , bend it a little and it can be used as a toboggan for all that wonderful snow you get in Minnesota LOL

The grill is also not going to work. I mean, it will, but there's a black trim piece on the bumper that is part of the grill setup that won't work with the new bumper.

However, 80 bucks isn't bad for the bumper, so there's worse things to waste money on. And you should be a pro and just hook it up anyway and take pics. Inquiring minds here are curious. It takes 20mins to take the bumper off.
