Front Bumper Swap

I do not know if this has been addressed before, so sorry if this has been brought up.

I have a '98 Runner Limited, and hit a patch of black ice. After being launched into a ditch and blowing both airbags, I screwed up the lower valance and the chrome bumper.[amongst some steering parts]. Ugh! I need to replace both of these bumper parts, but have always liked the look of the '99-'02 bumper better. I wanted to keep the chrome look, and noticed Limiteds of those years are all painted.

Someone suggested to me that the Base/SR5 Chrome Bumper w/Side Flares would work, from a '99-'02. I know that bumper has the "fat lip" look, so I would imagine the bumper brackets would be different. I have "flares" on the side of my current bumper set up, so I think it would look good and match.

I just called my local junkyard, and they insist that according to Toyota themselves, the '99-'02 bumper will not fit on a '98. I really have a hard time believing this.

Has anyone swapped out the newer 3rd gen style bumper onto a '96-'98? If so, what parts did you need in order to accomplish the swap? I guess if you truly cannot put a '99-'02 front bumper onto a '98, I will suck it up, and just get a '98 Limited. Thanks for your help!

It does, and I'm pretty sure the swap from 96-98 to 99+ plus is easier, than the reverse, i think that there is a 3rd mounting point (96-98 only have 2) on the 99+ plus isnt necessary. Look on Yotatech people have done the swaps over there.

I say just get the 96-98, the fat lips look like crap.
