Front catalytic converter recommendation?

After taking in my 4Runner to investigate a P0420 error code, my mechanic is saying I need to replace my front catalytic converter. To help save money, he said I could buy the parts myself and just pay him for the labor. I normally buy my parts from NAPA since there's one really close to me. Can anyone recommend one for me? Not sure which one to get given all the choices. I have a 2000 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6. Thanks in advance!

Try a 24 dollar bottle of Cataclean from the auto parts store and run the tank real low before refilling. In 150 miles my 420 went away. Has not come back yet.

I worked at Napa for 7 years, used the Walker direct fit converter for my '97. worked like a dream. I actually replaced the whole exhaust system as mine was getting rusted, but as far as that cat doing the job, it did well.

I went with Magnaflow. I can't comment on the longevity of it since I had it installed a week ago, but the fitment seemed good and it came with gaskets. I never got a P0420 code, but the internals of my OEM unit started to rattle occassionally, so I just bit the bullet.

I got it on Auto Anything for 20% off on the 4th of July; maybe you'll get lucky and the current coupon code will work.

That's encouraging. A Toyota dealer is telling me $3700 to replace F & R cat converters... more than I paid for the vehicle. And I'm being told a bad cat conv will destroy the engine.
