so Ive got the vacuum system, j shift, SR-5.
this year the front diff wont disengage on the fly, changed fluids a few months ago. some rare times it will disengage, most of the time I have to back up to get it to disengage. which is a hassle.
right now every time I drive I'm in snow for most of the drive, when I get to dry pavement, got to find a place to pull over and back up. not always easy on mountain roads with shoulders covered with snow and cars behind you.
It will also disengage if I have a place to do some tight "s" turns at slow speed.(parking lots, roads with no one around)
It has no problem engaging on the fly.
I do have matching tires, and are snow tires and studded , maybe that's an issue, the studs grabbing the pavement hard ?
Anyway, can the actuator be replaced without dropping the differential ?
from the FSM I have to pull the axels and drop the diff out completely, but they are only referencing it as if completely servicing the diff with seals etc.
