hi new to the board, this is my first post:cheers:

i have a 99 sr5 4runner 4x4 with 195k. Currently im working on the all the needed maintenance and repairs. Here is my list of whats ordered or yet to be purchased!

-Alternator (ho cs144)
-drive belts
-power steering rack
-tie rods
-ball joints
-brakes
-full fluid change

Im still undecided what to do about coils/struts, i plan on driving this for the next cpl years and I know I need to be replacing these. What would people suggest. Ive been toying with the idea of OME coils or the toytechs but think this might be a little out of my price range with all the other repairs. anybody got advice on good stock replacements to get me by for a year or so? should i save my money and wait? any thoughts or comments are much appreciated. Also feel free to suggest any other maintenance items i missed, ie: should i do bushings or anything else?

Thanks

OEM 1999 Tall coils all around with new OEM shocks.

Did you buy OEM parts for all the front end stuff you purchased? Almost all those parts are known to fail if not OEM. At least they have on me.

i havent ordered all the parts and have been holding off for this reason... ive heard alot of mixed reviews for steering and suspension parts that arent oem. since i have a 99 i have tall coils?? should i just leave my coils and replace struts or pray on the stockers tell i can afford the ome...another question maybe im dumb for this but if i were to buy assembled quickstruts for a 99 they would not be the tall coils??

If your not sagging in the rear than you could live with just shocks. Research the steering rack and you can get away with a non oem there. Inner tie rod ends people go non OEM but I killed two non oem inners when wheeling hard.

IMO OEM on all parts but the rack. You might not need a rack unless its leaking really bad. If all the other parts are loose it will make the rack feel loose.

I have Monroe strut and spring assemblies up front I got from Rock Auto, and they were so much taller than my old springs I ended up replacing the rears with '99 talls. If you're interested in going that route let me know and I'll find the part numbers for the exact ones I used. I was going to just do the struts, but everything was seized up and it wasn't much more expensive to buy them as complete assemblies which went much easier.

Like previously mentioned if it's not leaking... you might consider changing the rack and pinion bushings. I had excessive vibration overall noise when going over anything and loose steering. This tightened everything up and solved all my issues.

ive noticed leaking on both boots to the inner tie rods, so i figured replacing it would be the best option considering the price of buying tie rods and seals for rack i assume it wouldnt be much more exspensive and same amount of labor to just replace the rack

so far ive been thinking of the monroe quick struts or maybe just better struts with stock coils. im gonna try and buy all this crap at once at rockauto unless i can source some cheaper places

Thanks for any input all is appreciated!!

I guess I should say watch out for non OEM parts, not Rockauto as a company. They actually have really good pricing on there aftermarket parts.

They carry a lot of OEM stuff. Denso and Aisin for example.

They also certainly carry a lot of crap, so you have to be selective. People generally don't have a lot of issues with companies like Monroe when it comes to shocks and struts. Especially when it's 1/3 the cost of OEM.

I prefer being able to browse the parts there instead of going to a local store and being steered toward whatever they have in stock or can get quickly.

What's wrong with Rock Auto?

I used to buy from them, but no more. I became an ex-customer after they shipped a wrong part and wouldn't take it back unless I paid return shipping. No question that it was the wrong part and no question that the correct part had been ordered by me. But, they refused to move off their position. This is not the way I expect business to be conducted.

I replaced front with Monroe quick strut assembly and rear with import direct springs and rancho 5000 shocks. the quick struts and new rear springs added an inch and leveled it out. I bought everything from oreily's on a rebate, $400. I don't do anything crazy off road though. Just wanted a better ride and level

99 talls ad kyb is what I did, at the same time did Toyota LBJ's, outers, all Toyota parts from camelback, airlift 1000's and Energy suspension rack bushings. Chose that route because the only off roading I do is good forest service roads. Am very happy with end results
