I have recently started getting a strange noise coming from my drivers side front wheel that kinda sounds like the roar of a mud tire but i have street tires on my 3rd gen 4runner. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem so I know a little more about what it might be before I start spending money on parts that I dont need I have an idea of what it might be but i am not sure

If you think thats where its coming from then I would try and get under the truck to do a visual inspection of the cv shaft. Look at both knuckles to make sure the boots are intact and you aren't losing grease. Check the tire to make sure it's wearing ok and is filled to the correct psi. If thats not it, then put the truck up on jack stands and try and move that wheel with your hands. If the wheel has play (like you can move it a little bit front to back) then its most likely a wheel bearing. If all of that stuff checks out then I would guess its in the front differential.

thanks i cant really see any damage to the cv axle or anything but what gets me is it comes and it goes sometimes its just a noise and other times it has a slight vibration to it. how much does it usually cost to have the front wheel bearings replaced or how hard is it to do?
