I started getting really bad (like crazy steering wheel shaking) when braking. Started off small and last week was the worst. Made sure all lug nuts were tightened, and they were fine. Obviously I first thought tires were out of balance but they've been recently balanced and it's not every time that I brake that it happens. So I started looking at the suspension and found that my nut and washer on my front driver shock was missing. I thought YAY! found the problem. Got it all replaced and tightened up and it was good for maybe 100 miles (maybe less). Then today it started again. Everything is still in place. I have a 2007 4Runner with about 112,000 miles, bilstein 5100's on there for about 2 yrs. No other suspension parts replaced. My sway bar bushings are original and I did see a small gap between the bushing and the front sway bar but no obvious deformities otherwise. Could this extreme shaking be caused by this?? If that's not plausible, what else should I be looking at? No other problems, drives straight, rotors maybe have 10-15k mi on them, brake pads changed at the same time. I have no problem replacing the bushings and planned to anyway. Just wondering if y'all think that's the problem.
