Front end???

:horn: Just purchased the 93 4-runner 4x4 2.4L
Highway the ride is amazing for 200k miles. I do have an exhaust leak that I will get to soon. I put new 235/75/15 cooper a/ts on and made the highway ride great. As soon as I turn off onto the gravel road going to work and start hitting the bumps the front passenger side has a metal to metal clanking.
I have new half axles, outer tie rod end, and shocks in the back seat. Is there anything else I need to replace while I am having it done???
Raised it up after new tires were put on and pulled top to bottom and side to side and BJS and bearings seem great.
I just had rotator cuff surgery and a buddy is going to do the physical part of this.
I have built a variety of vehicles and always do my own wrenching so this will be different, but need it done because I will be able to drive well before I can start wrenching.
I have read a ton of posts here already but seems most are regarding lifts, 3 link, and more off road related.

Pitman arm bushing? Worn out shock or broken shock? Ball joint? All possible causes.

Upper and lower ball joints and control arm bushings along with new camber and caster bolts to replace the ones you may have to cut out. Not saying you need to replace them, but easy enough to check if you jack one wheel of the ground and push/pull on the wheel to see what all is moving around in there.

When you hear the metal to metal sounds is with the steering wheel turned or straight. Did you check the cheap plastic caps on the steering stops?

As stated in opening post, ball joints were checked. The noise happens when hitting bumps, both when wheels are turned and/or straight. The main reason I'm doing half shafts is boots are both torn. The front shocks look original.
I did not buy idler arm or pitman arm. I will source them this week ad we did not get to work on it yesterday.

:sobbing: Of course, I got the half axles, shocks, and tie rod ends changed. Figured out real fast when changing parts that the amount of play in pitman/idler arms were the main noise source.
Drives like a dream, now on to exhaust leak!!!

For the exhaust leak check where the manifold connects to the tailpipe if you don't see any holes. Sometimes just tightening those nuts will work but the gasket can get pretty worn as well.

Did you check all control arm bushing's?

Did in fact tighten the 2 bolts going to down pipe. The po did a bad hackjob on cutting off cat and welding back together. Would think that would be main source. Next will be changing gasket.
