Front Hitch Receiver

FYI I have installed a Curt 31054 Front Receiver on my 2016 SR5 4WD.

Fit perfectly. Only had to remove the plastic underbody panel in the area to get it bolted on. Then trim about 3/4 inch off part of each side of the panel to get it to fit back on.

Curt has asked me for pics but can't get far enough away with it on the ground. So later this month when in for service I'm hoping to get pics when it's on the lift. Will post.

Meantime look at my avatar. It, along with a Curt 45792 Dual Extender and a Hitch Haul Z/Lift Bar is how the front cooler/fishin' rod rack is mounted.

Looks like they updated the mounting design. I think it's a nice improvement over the previous models. Especially if you intend to use for a front mount winch. The prior plate was much weaker in attachment for a front pull.

I have the older style on my '15 that i use for a snow plow bracket that I remove in the summer. It fits over top of my hidden winch mount and the news style would not as my hidden winch mount also uses the same frame rail attachment down the side that this new one uses.

Looks like Curt made a nice update.

BTW one con on the receiver is that while it is about 0.5 inch higher than the lowest component ground clearance, it does stick well out to the front and affects approach angle. Thus I'm contemplating some kind of lift to get it up about 2.5 - 3.0 inch so it does not plow as much into the deep sand I many times drive in on the beaches of Cape Hatteras.

It is definitely solid with the bolting directly to the frame as well as bolting to the factory tow hooks. BTW it has tow hooks since the factory hooks are used for mounting.

I was thinking about a front hitch on my TE as I had one on a Tundra that was handy, but didn't know how it would impact the installation of an aftermarket skid plate like RCI.

This sounds great if it's really stout. Any idea what the tow or max pull force limit is?
Can you take a few photos from the side and the front that show where the hitch comes out of the bumper. Your signature photo is too small to see any detail.

Weight Capacity is 3500 lb, Tongue Weight is 350 lb.

It goes in for first service in a couple weeks and I'm going to try to get some good picks while it is on the lift. Will post.

My recollection in researching this is that it will not work on a 2016 TE so you need to look at that.

BTW Curt did not think it would work on my 2016 SR5 but checking the frame config of 2015 vs 2016, it is the same. So only difference was in the underbody panel mod. Curt has asked me for pics as well.

As I said in an earlier post the bottom of the receiver is about 0.5 inch higher than the lowest ground clearance of 9.6 inch, putting it at about 10 inch off the ground. Don't know how that relates to the picture.

Here's how the older version mounted. It looks like the new one is similar. It's as tight as you can physically put it without having to cut the bumper to fit. (Mine is modified for some other uses, but you get the idea).

You can just swap the hitch for a trail edition version. It'll fit just fine and give you back 4 inches of clearance on that hitch. Tuck it up to the bumper.

What year/model is yours on? Is it a Curt # 31367?

I've seen where some folks have said they have had to leave off the underbody panel(s) and make a small cut in the bumper to keep a 31367 from touching when it's on a SR5.

BTW my reason for the lift is really to get stock stuff up so driving in deep soft sand is less of a drag problem. Probably would do the lift even if I were to swap the receiver.
