Front hub swap 87

What is your thoughts of automatic hubs compard to manual locking hubs. Well, let me back up.. When i take off something is binding up and poping making a loud thud. So bad it makes the front end bounce. Once I get going it doesnt do it again until I come to a stop and take off again. I believe its the auto hubs binding up. Does this sound right? I have a parts truck with manuals and started on the swap today but looks like ill have to swap out the whole CV axle assembly instead of just the hub. Is this right?Any suggestions??

In my opinion manuals are better. I have a service book, ill look and see if there is a difference. Take your autos out the manuals should just slide back in the same hole.

Ive never done this swap on a 4R.

If the auto hubs were in either the locked or unlocked position, I don't think they'd be your problem if you are in 2WD.
What might do it is a bad/dry slip joint or u-joint.

I grenaded my auto hubs rock crawling...a real pain in the ass if you ask me.

I swapped over to manuals. They work MUCH better. Was not a hard swap.
If you have a donor sitting in the yard, just go ahead and do it.

No, you do not have to swap over the CV's either.

Do the swap one side at a time ( so you can reference back to the other side if need be )

Have fun :biggrin2:

Any recommends on replacement manual hubs? Gonna do my rotors and pads soon, and would like to swap out my autos for manuals during the process.

Aisin Manual Hubs - Aparently they are next to indestructable. New they are about $200. Second hand off either this site or Yotatech you can get them for $70-80 bucks. There are also lots of writeups on how to clean and rebuild them if they have been sitting around for a while.

:iagree:
check junkyards and online classifieds too. I found mine on craigslist. The other option is warn hubs but they are not as tough and stick out a lot farther.
