front hubs not engaging need help plz

hi fellow toy drivers,
im having a problem with my 89 v6 4runner 4wd hubs not locking in, i know my transfer is engaging. i heard that the hubs are activated by vaccum i dont know if its true but if it is i would like to know where the vaccum line and or solenoid is located please help i just bought this truck 3 days ago and dont know much about it. thanks u guy i would apreciate any feed back and info u can share with me

The vaccum line's for the 4WD is under the hood mounted on the passenger side fender. Try switching them and seeing if that work's. Some time's when working on the engine where they got to take vaccum line's off they cross the 2.
 
Unless maybe your 89 was built really late in the model year, you don't have the vacuum controlled Toyota ADD 4WD system, it didn't become available on 4Runners until the 90 model year.
And second, ADD equipped vehicles don't have hubs.

If you really aren't sure, just look on the axle housing, drivers side. If you have ADD you will see a strange looking assembly with 2 vac lines and some wiring.
 
well i checked my dr side hub and all it has is automatic locking hub written on it, im so lost on these vehicles lol i went from racin honda civics to a totaly diff sport so im sorry if i may miss something. but i looked under the hood on the pass side and their are so many vacuum lines that i dont know what goes to what

The one's you want are mounted on the wheel well on the passenger side or on the front diff. I would try switching the one's on the front diff first to see if they are crossed there.
 
i have some vacuum lines on the pass side wheel well, i was told thier was a hoes ran to the front diff but i was basically huggin the front diff looking for any sign of a sensor or bear nipple but all i found was a vent valve

If you have vaccum hub's but you can't find any vaccum line's on the front diff that is your issue. What you can do is pop off the center piece in your rim's and see if there is a hub or you will need to hub swap it.
 
where about would that vacuum eneter the front diff. cause like i said i was huggin and groppin that dam thing and only felt the vent, i am tempted to just swap it over to manuel hubs cause their are some nice mud holes out here that i want to hit but am afraid cause i dont need to get stuck lol

Would be on the front of the diff. You can't miss it. It has wire's and vaccum line's going into it.

What are you talking about?
He just stated he has auto hubs, so there's no vacuum lines involved.

IF you have the ADD system, looking on the diff is not going to help.
As I explained above, the ADD actuator is on the drivers side axle housing.

And if you have a inoperative ADD, adding manual hubs is not going to do anything.

And there's no such thing as a vaccum hub.

He said that his center cap said automatic locking hub, but i was telling him to take the wheel or center cap off cause maybe someone put the center cap on blocking the hub dial. If he has automatic locking hub's there are vaccum line's on the front diff and on the inside of the passenger side fender under the hood.
 
okay guys so i raised up my toy with all 4 wheels off the gound i then put it in 4h and 4L i then put it in gear so my 4x4 drive shaft spins and my front axel spin but just my wheels them self arent spining, so mr. fourwd1 if i were to change over to mauel hubs it still wouldnt cure my problem???

i also ran in to another problem i removed the after market alarm system well i ended up grounding out the cig lighter and i replaced the fuse but know my windows dont work and i cant find a window fuse anywhere i looked under the hood on pass side and dr side kick panel do u guys now anywhere else i may be missing???
 
I would say sound's like a hub issue. I would reinstall the alarm and then have a alarm place uninstall it, that way they have to figure out why someting is not working if it deal's with the alarm.
 
well im ganna have to figure the window thing myself lol cause i already trashed the alarm, as far as the hubs do u think if i just install the man. hubs it would fix my problem?? seeing that everthing else is working

It could, i don't see why it wouldn't. Sense everything else IS working.
