front hubs not engaging need help plz

okay guys so i raised up my toy with all 4 wheels off the gound i then put it in 4h and 4L i then put it in gear so my 4x4 drive shaft spins and my front axel spin but just my wheels them self arent spining, so mr. fourwd1 if i were to change over to mauel hubs it still wouldnt cure my problem???

If you do not have the ADD system (and you shouldn't on an 89), you can install manual hubs. They are more reliable than auto hubs.

But I don't think your test (above ) is a proper way to check auto hubs. You have to drive the vehicle forward for them to lock (or in reverse for them to unlock). They won't lock while sitting still, they need the motion.

And auto hubs do not use any vacuum lines, so don't bother looking.

well Ive driven the truck both on and off road for a good while too i tried it in forward and reverse 4h and 4l to maybe unlock the hubs but i wouldn't engage Ive done donuts and went threw a mud puddle and all i felt was my rear end sliding and digging in i don't know any other way to test it out but if u have another idea please share it with me please but then again i read that these self locking hubs are a failed ass idea that Toyota came out with

fourwd1 is right and so is everyone else switch to manual hubs best thing u will ever do not to mention u willl have less moving while going down road glad to hear u have moved into the 4wd side of life theres alot more out there when u leave the pavement lol
