Front license plate mounting plate

Could not get OEM front license plate mounting bracket. Co-worker just bought a Subaru Outback and guess what? With minor fitting it looks almost like custom made. $35.00 in a local Subaru dealer

Could not get OEM front license plate mounting plate.

I didn't even know such a thing existed until I saw this thread. My dealer simply drilled two screws through the license plate corner holes and into the front bumper. Idiots.

That must be standard. Mine did the same thing. Is there a stock mount?

Stock mount does not exist. That really pissed me off. You pay 36K for the SUV and they even do not bother to offer you an option for a good mount. Dealer put screws right into my SUV's bumper without asking me or giving me any alternative. Dangling plate looked totally out of place...
Bought Weathertech covers (my choice) and Subaru bracket

How do those screw in to the 4runner bumper?

I know some states, like Virginia, can't force anything that's not stock from the factory. That means even if they require front plates, they can't force you to mod your ride if it didn't come with the mount. That true anywhere else?

Subaru bracket has 4 pads with 3M self adhesive tape and two holes to screw in to the bumper. Those two holes perfectly correspond with existing holes in the bumper (from dealer attaching the license plate in the first place). 3 out of four pads with 3M tape are touching bumper , so I used them too to assure a solid attachment to the bumper.
I had to file off a bit of vertical sides (less that 1/8” in the center) of the mounting plate to follow the curve of the 4runner’s bumper.
A also used Weathertech license plate covers to protect the plates.

I am not sure about it in my state, but would not like to give another reason to the police officer to stop me. :police:

One positive thing about GA, we don't have to have front plates.

Same for SC, but now I live in MA and you can't imagine how bummed I am about eventually having to drill into my front bumper. I am going to try and run this mod after I switch my plates...http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/96162-front-license-plate-mounting.html You'll have to scroll down and reference what Bradley did; I believe someone else here has done it too but I can't remember who it was. I wanna say someone with a CT tag...?

License Plate Frame

This is to Viktor17. I just bought a 2011 T4R-SR5 and want to install the license plate frame as you have shown on the thread. Couple of questions: What did you use to "file down" the frame to match the curve of the bumper? And , how has the frame held up. My license plate has bent going through the car wash and hope the frame will hold up if only mounted to the pumper with a couple of screws....

The frame mod you did looks great. Thanks

Another option is the Skene Design bracket. Still requires drilling the bumper just above the lower grill, but the holes are discreet and on the underside, not big scars on the front of the bumper.

Will it fit my 2014 trail bumper? If so, what is the part number I can check at a local Subaru?

Dealer Mounting Bracket Cost

Bought my TRD Pro in another state not requiring front plate. So got a price today from dealer in VA. $71.68 for front mounting bracket & they would mount for free. Not my number one choice. The homemade 'grill' mount is clean, I just don't know how much that will impede air flow and cooling at 80mph on road trips...
