front license plate mounts

Hey everyone,

Newbie here to the 4Runner world, and for the life of me, I can't figure out what's going on with my front license plate mounts. From looking at a couple different state license plates, it appears that they all follow the same pattern for hole placement (seems like common sense so every state would fit every vehicle). However, as you can see in the photos, my plate holes don't match the holes in the mount on the front bumper...any idea why this is, or how it can be remedied?

I had the same issue, but the dealer just used two screws, centered the plate, and tapped right into the same area and screwed it in.

For now, that's what I'm doing as well, but here in TX it's a state law. I hear they aren't too strict on it in Dallas, but in some of the surrounding areas and in smaller towns they sometimes crack down on it cause of speed cameras and whatnot.

Guess I could just carry the spare plate with me and show the officer if I ever get pulled over...

state law here too. it has to do w. the speed cameras/radar guns. i was told they need a flat surface to focus on.

give the excuse i use...just say 'the dealership hasnt given me the brackets yet' and keep the plate w. you.

I also had the same issue...If you look to the inside of the factory holes, you should see two concave nipples. These, you will find, line up perfectly with the outside of your license holes. You will have to use two self tapping screws to mount that plate. If you don't want to mess up the factory look, you could use zip ties to line it up centered but It wont be very sturdy at the bottom...

My dealer didn't know what the factory holes are for either. My dealer told me to do what matroe11 did...use the two dimples and pop the screws in there.

Probably European/Asian plates.
