Front OEM skid replacement/upgrade

I don't have the stock skid plate and cant seem to find an upgrade. I went through the body armor thread and seems those skid plates start after the stock one ends?

Im not doing any rock crawlering so just would like to improve upon the oem one.

They make a longer length one for the 4r. But some of the ones from the FJ will also fit.

I did come across them and they looked decent.

I guess I need to clarify what I'm looking for.
I think I'm missing a skid plate that covers the red area and most of the skids that I see for sale start at the yellow and go back.

Do I have that right?

As far as I know , the skids didn't start til the yellow area. They start at the yellow area and go back. Toyota made a thin silver one that went at the red area , but it was completely for looks and didn't serve much protective purpose.

I'm currently looking at the ricochet ones because my skid plate are really starting to look bad.

To change the v8 oil you need to remove the front skid... and you have to remember to put it back on unlike the Midas that did my last oil change....
 
yeah, thats how it is for most cars. which is the reason that I included an oil door for the ones I have done for this other platform. HOWEVER - with this being off-road ready, an oil door might not be as practical. For the G35 we wanted it to be lightweight for performance. For the 4runner weight isn't as much of a concern as strength, I believe. To keep the strength higher an oil door option might not be used.

The 4th Gen does not have a skid plate for the red area shown.
The one offered by Toyota is more of a cosmetic accessory than a skid plate.
I have one of these to protect from stones, branches etc. I do not consider it as a "skid plate" for sliding over rocks.

Yeah, the tall old growth sage brush can punch some nasty vehicle stopping holes if you are not protected. Have heard of people have problems for just some stones bouncing on the highway and getting to the radiator or tyranny cooler..
This week will put some screening behind the two front air cooling openings, upper and lower..

I went with an RCI front skid plate after I munched up the stock one.
