front passenger lower ball joint keeps breaking/coming apart

We have a 1999 Toyota 4Runner with 140,000 miles on it. We needed to change the lower ball joints and tie rods to get it aligned. The front passenger lower ball joint came apart about a week after we replaced it ourselves - thought we just didn't get it tight enough. Had it replaced again at a shop. About 1 year and 1 month after they replaced it, the large bolt on the ball joint/lower arm actually broke during a slow U-turn, when stress was put on that front passenger tire. We just replaced the ball joint ourselves again, and it came apart in one week - the bolt came off. It seems like there is something else wrong that causes extra stress on that joint. We have replaced the ball joints on our 1990 4Runner without any problems at all, and on other cars without any problems. Any insight is greatly appreciated!!

That's your issue right there. If you're replacing ball joints or replacing any steering components. Using Toyota Genuine parts is highly suggested.

2nd that! I've heard really bad things about Moog Parts. Steer clear of them! Not quality at all...

Im using moog and my front is sitting about 4-4.5 inches higher than stock...

I havent had any issues with them. they are pretty stout. the first brand I used were OE from advance autoparts and they went bad in less than 6 months,

How did you manage that lift?

I have moogs, and they are really bad quality. I seared the lbj off wheeling and had to get a replacement quick. They are a year old and the boots are ripped

My Moog LBJ were on the verge of breaking after only being <1 year old. When I took them off, the joint no longer moved freely. I replaced them with Napa lifetime LBJs and so far they are holding up very good.

All aftermarket LBJs are junk.

Suck it up and pay the man and buy OE at a Toyota dealer!

I agree with Gerdo...for something this important I would go OEM.
