Front rotors

Were there two different sizes of rotors used on the front of 2004 SR5 4Runner 2-wheel drive? If so why?

The only rotor differences I'm aware of are between the 16 and 17 inch wheels. The rotor size should be based on wheel size, not 2x4 or 4x4.

There are also 3 different brake calipers (WG, WH, and WL). If you have original calipers, the two letter combo is cast in the caliper, near the bottom.

That is unless a previous owner changed out the smaller rotors for the larger rotors.

I do have the 17" wheels but not sure about the rotor size.

dont all 4th gen 4runners have 17" wheels? every sr5 ive seen has them & all sports, & limiteds have 18"

Good chance you still have to smaller brakes that came from the factory but the only way to truly know is to measure the rotor or look at the casting on the back of the calipers if your concerned that some one put sport brakes or the 5th gen brakes. The rotors are noticeably different when next to each other. I’d say look at your brake lines and if doesn’t look like anyone has been in there messing with them, if it looks untouched you still have the small brakes, going to be the easiest way to tell with out taking the tire off and measuring the rotor or removing a caliper to look at the casting number.

ok, maybe that was a early year vs later year thing? i looked at a lot of 4runners recently when looking to buy one, & all the 06-09 sr5 & sports i saw had 17".

The rotor sizes on 4th Gen T4Rs are 319mm and 338mm, if you don't know which you have either take the wheel off or simply crawl under the front and measure them the best you can, the 319mm is a tad over 12 1/2" @ 12.559", the the 338 is just under 13 3/8 " @ 13.307" so that's a tad over 3/4" @ 0.756 difference in the 2 sizes, so you should be able to tell the difference just by getting a tape measure relatively close to the rotor.

If you do have 16" wheels you have the smaller rotor.
