Front Shock Suggestions after 1.5 inch Front Ball Joint Specer Kit

I got my Toytec 1.5 inch Front Ball Joint Spacer Kit installed today on my 1986 4Runner and my current shocks are almost maxed out. I need some new shocks with more travel to improve the ride quality and performance. I was curious if the Old Man Emu 60072 front shocks would allow enough travel or if anybody had any other suggestions.

Are they too short? Lift the truck by the cross member and pop the lower bolt off the shock? If the shock is aligned with the mounting holes on the control arm, and just make it, you can save money by simply spacing the current shocks down nice and neat.

You can do it with a nut like so:

Of course if the shock is way too short you have to order some new ones.

No problem. I am not promoting the cheap skate route, but I know what these bjs kits cost and then shocks sometimes double the cost, even tripple.

Just jack the truck off the ground at the front crossmember and look and see if the upper control arm droop stops are what is stopping the travel. If the droop stops dont make contact then the shock is too short. This will wear out the lower ball joints fast. If the droop stop on the upper UCA is contacting then the shocks you have are long enough. If you want to investigate further: disconnect the lower bolt of the shocks, then wiggle it free of the mounting tabs and see if it wants to continue its travel farther down.if it doesnt, and you still feel uncomfortable about them you can space them down as noted.

i would highly recommend billys over ome. thats just my .02 though. i opt for koni or bilstein whenever available.

also would you post pictures of your rig with the spacers? i was thinking of getting them. did you also get the diff drop?

Diff drop

Yes you absolutely need to get spacers to drop the front diff.

They are 30 bucks from 4crawler and 30 minute install. I didn't have these on mine and just threw down almost 1k to get my CV assembly replaced when my boots split from the increased angle.

Not sure if the spacers help with the ride quality at all but it will save your CV boots and give you more downward travel.

The after pictures are at the bottom of this post! I didn't get a Diff Drop! I have Bilstein 5100s on my Tundra and they are great but I decided to try OME on the 4Runner! I am pleased with both so far!
