Front Skid plate

I see the Tacoma's have the front skid plate on them. Do these fit out runners and if so is there a good place to order one or do I have to look for a wrecked Coma? How much do they run and are there any pics of a Runner with one on?

I got mine from a member on another board for $70 shipped and I had to fabricate brackets to extend the plate 3 inches forward so it just hugs the bumper perfectly and a machine shop made them for me for $10. This is for the newer '99+ "fat lip" bumper Runners, they fit fine on the older '96-'98 Runners.
'02 Runners had the skidplate standard with the Sport Edition model so those brackets work of course but I didn't like how low and out the brackets put the skid plate since it could incur damage easier.

You can find them on ebay and most on-line places sell them for under $110 or try here. The below link is for the '02 Runner plate.

just an fyi.. those skidplates look cool, but are not very protective... they get damaged really easily.

I wont be doing any off roading but would and do like the polished look of it as far as being under the front end. But I would like one that is sturdy in case there is a need to go off road.

so would it hurt to remove it and leave it off? It gets in the way during oil changes and I'd really like to yank it off.

not the brushed aluminum one.

you sure youre not talking about the metallic skidplate beneath the one we're talking about?

this is the one we mean:

yeah, sorry...we're talking about different things. I'm talking about the big monster skid plate that comes from the factory. That runs the length of the motor/oil pan/tranny. I'd like to take it off permanently. I don't offroad, and its a PITA to work around.

DO NOT remove the factory "monster" skid plate. it protects the lower radiator hose, as well as a bunch of other things. i refused to drive 1/2 mile down the street with it off out of fear of something getting kicked up!

but i do agree with the others about how awesome the alum. plates look. especially on the darker colors. and seriously! lee, out of all people, i would have expected your to have one on it already!

and seeing this is talking about extra parts, anyone have an extra wiper arm cap? i lost one somewhere. if not, then i guess off to the toyota dealership i go (to browse the used truck lot for a new truck....of course! :moon: ) haha

hah!

well since im building my truck up for offroading, it would be an expensive piece of useless equipment for me.

though i DO love they way they look!

I had to have one and if I dink it up offroad then I'll ditch it but in the meantime it looks good against the Jade mica. Bils and PP springs up next then a set of Terra Grapplers.

What kind of "real" skidplates are you guys using and where can I find them?
