Front suspension "pop"

With wheels cut hard in either direction, loud "pop" "pop" as suspension articulates. Anybody know exactly what this is? I know it could be a few things, but is there something really typical?

I'm sorry i can't be any help, but mine (95 4WD) does the same thing you are describing. I have new axle shafts and everything. Its a very scary sound lol, BTW are you a Skillet fan? Great band......

That's a problem more common then rust on the classic 4Runners. Both mine had the issue. If I remember correctly, it's simply that little plastic covers that prevent metal on metal rubbing in the suspension have a tendency to fall off or wear through.

My 94 does it when i cut too hard to the left. The sound is pretty nasty but i trust what the dingman says.

If you put grease on your steering stops (2 per front wheel) the popping will go away. Mine used to do that too.

So where exactly are these steering stops located. I sure want to stop that noise. When it happens, it sounds like something is coming apart under there!

I don't know how to say where they are, but since they have been rubbing they will be shiny. Look at your running gear and everything that turns with the steering wheel. There will be a bolt on the front and rear of the steering hub/knuckle that will hit a piece of metal at full lock. I might be able to get a picture later today, but the easiest way is to get down there and look. Any grease will work and you'll have to grease them fairly often depending on how and where you drive. You could also get the plastic caps from the dealer and not have to worry about it until they wear through or fall off again.

I got a pic and I can write up a description. The steering stops are located on the lower control arms on either side of the lower ball joints. You can either grease the bolt like things on the steering knuckles or the stops on the control arm, or both. Both is a bit excessive as it wears and washes off anyway.

I actually need to put some fresh grease on mine.
Should take care of the popping while at full lock. Good luck!
