Front sway bar endlinks

So last night while installing my new Icon coilovers, I noticed that both of my front sway bar end links were spewing grease as all of the rubber seals were cracked.

I checked with the local stealers and they want $112 per link. Ugh!

What should I do? Replace with OEM links (I think I can find them for around $70ea online), or should I replace them with ones from Allpro? Has anyone successfully repaired these using RTV silicone or something else?

I used some type rubber compound to temporarily seal the slit I had in my mine.

Ended up ordering some DEEZAs (TYL663/665) through RockAuto.com. Pretty inexpensive and easy to install. We'll see how they end up working/lasting....

Save the money and throw the swaw bar in recycle bin.

Mine has been gone for a long time and I honestly don't even know it isn't there.
 
I accidentally broke a rubber seal on an end link when I put my daystar lift on, so the sway bar stayed off. The handling is obviously not what it used to be, however it is by no means anywhere near as bad as a Chevy Envoy (had that as a rental car recently).

It is much smoother over bumps now (+ for offroading).

I don't know if it affects anything else, but I've been fine with it for about a month now.

Anyhow, fron sway bar end links. Once lifted the suspension geometry is not the same so I was thinking I should fix it (since its also supposed to help with the travel? not sure if I understand it right). I know there is a guy on the forum who makes fancy disco but the canadian $ is weak now and I am not ready to spend that much. Also cant just ditch the bar since it doesnt work well with the local insurance. I read that a lot of people from 3rd gen crowd are using front end links from the 2nd gen. Is that the case with the 4th as well?

Thanks for the recycle lol. I don't think anything from the 2nd and 3rd gen suspensions are adaptable to the 4th gens. The 4th and 5th gens, as well as the 2nd gen Tacoma are almost identical, as well as the links. Unless you've lifted more than 3", your old links should work just fine for the time being, unless they're broken of course. I've used the disco links you spoke of, and unless you have a 2wd the overall length needs to be close to the same, so as not to interfere with the CV axles and boots. The discos I used were not adustable in length. Even though the bar and mounting points on the frame are raised a little with a suspension lift, it can be rotated in the bushings to accommodate the new geometry. I never have had any issues with my 5th gen set up, and I eliminated the bar on my 4th gen. Hopefully someone will chime in with more knowledge that can give you a better answer. Good Luck!
 
The front likes a sway bar relocate kit... little aluminum blocks.

The rear you can use a 2nd gen link on a 4th gen. 1 inch longer.

This would be for lifted 2.5 front/1.5 rear style lift.

Duh the relocation kit. My res brackets incorporate that into the design and I completely forgot about them. Thanks! I new somebody would correct me lol. Never new about the 2nd gen links. Love this forum.

I know the relocation kit is supposed to push it forward. Does it push it down too? Otherwise it only helps to clear the sway bar, but not much of the geometry change I guess.

I seem to go through them fast (second set over last 20k km) so thought may be there are under a lot of stress? Not sure. Mike (who designed the disco's) has recommended to either extend them or ditch the sway bar. That being said he has, how they say, skin in the game, but his engineering skills are pretty impressive so I thought I should follow his advise lol

Whether you get the quick disconnect version or not, they are adjustable so you can lengthen them to return the sway bar back to stock geometry. Plus they tend to be more durable than the originals.

I'm planning on getting them when I order my lift, which is on hold for the moment given the general craziness.

Like I have mentioned before although I appreciate the high level of craftsmanship that went into them at this moment they are out of my price range. $170 USD for us snow Mexicans is $250 lol

I’m wondering if this would help me up front...the front seems harsh over speed bumps/steps and I’m starting to wonder if it’s the sway bar. I’m gonna take the front endlinks off soon and see if there’s any difference.

I probably need new endlinks regardless (132k OEM endlinks) so I could probably use the 2nd gen ones out back, not sure what to use up front. I figure maybe change out the bushings with Energy stuff too while I’m at it...

every 4runner I've owned, one of the first things I've done was to remove then trash the front sway bars. I do take mine offroad as much as possible so they are just in the way LOL

Could do, but I did get my hands on some used MStudt front links! My main reasoning is that I'd ideally like to keep the sway for daily use (especially now with a lift/tires) but remove what I think is preload on the bar. I've checked everything else (bushings, bolts, etc) and that's the only thing that seems to be plausibly causing my low speed harsh rebounds in the front (eg going over speed bumps/steps). I'm going to disconnect the front end links sometime this week and try it over the same areas. I plan on doing the same when I wheel too.

I'm thinking maybe the end links combined with the front sway bar relocate/blocks (Toytec's I guess?) might be able to alleviate the harshness by releasing some of that preload. Mind you I have Durobumps all around as well, so something is up.

As for the rear, I'm probably gonna pick up those Proforged 2nd gen end links and some energy suspension bushings for those (9.8106G vs 9.8105G - not sure exactly WHAT the difference is between those 2 part numbers is, but they sure look similar).

Also contemplating new swaybar bushings as mine could probably use a refresh but not exactly sure what to go with these...Moog, ES, Prothane? Too many options.

If your not a Speed racer guy, on road action and actually drive off road once in awhile you will like it with no sway bar at all.
