Front sway bar link broken

After taking my truck to the dealer to have them look at the transmission issues (which they could not replicate...of course), they said I have a "broken" passenger side sway bar link. What does that mean?

I know what a sway bar is, but what do they mean by link? Just the point where the bar attaches?

I have yet to crawl under and look...just looking for preliminary answers. Also, would this mean I'd have to replace the entire sway bar?

Thanks!

it is where the sway bar connects to the truck! just replaced mine for about 30 bucks(both sides) took about an hous and is fairly easy!

mine broke on the same side. I went to advance auto and picked up a MOOG brand name replacement for $30 and its holding up great. It has a lifetime warranty against breakage if i remember correctly. Very easy fix

hell i took my front sway bar end links off completely!!! smoother ride off road and more flex. with just a very minimal amount of extra body roll nothing that is extreme anyways.

im fairly confident that the sway bar itself is fine prolly just the end links which is cake.

ditto. who needs a sway bar?

You need a front sway bar when you make a move at highway speeds and it keeps you from rolling over and dying. That is why they make quick disconnects. If you are on an off camber desert road for a long time you may want it too.

The rear is a different story, many run without it but I would still leave it for that quick move at 70 mph. You can put one QD on the passenger side rear and it will work great.

Just my opinion but I would go with the QD's up front and one in the rear. That way it is safe on the road and great for articulation if you need it.

i took mine off about a month ago. its not unstable at all on the highway, but i have sway away coilovers and they are stiffer than stock. if you have a stock setup i would definentally replace it because i remember my runner when it was stock and it swayed even with the sway bar

So, say I *rarely* go off-roading. Would buying the quick-disconnect end links be stupid? :D

They sure look pretty, though.

I'll probably get the Moog ones, unless anyone can tell me why that wouldn't be a good choice.

Thanks!

Mine is broken on that side as well. I have done my share of jumps in the last year as well, however. Better that than a hard part.

i dont understand hows its easy?:/ i spent 52 bucks for two new sway bar links and my old ones idk thier weird they have like two sides to unscrew but one.....will not come off i used everything i had and nothing so i spent 52$ on new bushings cuz that sall i needed replaced that bushings were non exisitant lol but lil much for that...

i bought moog ones about 120,000 miles ago. i wheel frequently and have the tundra coils with the bilstein 5100 adjustable shocks. i also have coilovers adjusted to the next to highest level (which is uncommon for most). i havent snapped mine yet, and i also havent greased them. you need them for the road, but the moogs are fine in my opinion. if they havent broken yet after all the abuse, im sure you wont have an issue. and the guys at advance auto swear by moog. even though i think moog is a little crappy compared to what we usually deal with.

Are you talking about the brackets or the end links? If its the brackets, they have one welded nut that takes a bolt and one stud that takes a nut. Both unscrew from the top. Sounds like you are trying to unscrew the welded nut from the bottom. Not gonna work....

I just replaces my front and rear sway arm bushings, end links, and brackets today.
The bushings were cracked and broken
The end links rubber boots were torn
The brackets broke as soon as I put a wrench on them. (bolts and nuts)

Keep them connected when on the road. When you hit the trail disconnect one side of the front sway bar and now you have all the flex you ever would need. Reconnect and get a better ride on road. Its the only way to go.

pghchuck,

take your email down. the whole point of a forum is that communication should be on the thread page. Also you don't want to show your email because you WILL get a bunch of spam. Web bots troll these sites and pic up emails.

The end links should be easy to remove. Post a picture of exactly what bolt you are talking about.
