Front sway bar

So I was wheeling in SoCal a few days ago and my front sway bar link snapped in two and proceeded to tear my outer cv boot.

Think it broke doing this climb.

So I’m thinking of disconnecting my sway bar at the links when I go off road. I don’t want to remove it all the time because it’s scary as hell, I’ve tried it.
Does anyone do this and how do you secure it so that it’s not flopping around?

Woah, that's pretty gnarly! I'd be interested to hear others' solutions too, as I took a look myself and didn't have any great ideas. Have you looked into simply getting beefier end links? Of course then something else becomes the weak link, and probably something more expensive... As an extreme solution, you could just totally remove the sway bar and links every time you do serious wheeling. I know on an R50 Pathfinder it's only a few bolts, not sure what it's like on a T4R4.

Disconnecting sway bar end links. Group buy a couple times a year, generally.

What suspension are you running up front? I ditched my swaybars a long time ago. Wasn't bad with 5100s/885s, was much more controllable when I went to Icons and 650 # coils, and it's damned near perfect with the 700 # coils now. Stock suspension, yeah forget about it, but the swaybar is doing you more harm than good if you're wheeling stuff like that.

OP, I had something similar happen where the new Moog links I put on came loose on a dirt road and I had the sway bar crash into my CV and tear the boot too. I pulled the whole damn bar off in frustration on the trail.

The annoying part is that I torqued the stupid things plenty with a vice grip on the backside of the bolt and a socket on the front, but they still somehow came loose. I'm guessing loctite is in order since a $30 part caused hours of work to pull my CV and get it rebooted at CVJ.

2006 V8, 3" lift.

I just installed the ICON Sway Bar relocation kit.
It drops the bar and moves it forward 1/2".
Moves it away from the coil over and aligns the sway bar level with the ground.

I was told it works on the earlier Gen4s.

I have only used the T4R for 'the mall' since the install.

Double check to make sure the sway bar actually has to be dropped, using the quick disconnects... {~~~maybe I was hearing things?} :loco:

6112’s with king 650# coils and spc uca’s.

Yea I have the relocation block, I’m just going to order the quick disconnects.

I had the sway bar off for a few weeks and it’s ok when driving under 55, but I usually drive around 80 on the highway.

You get used to it. I drive 80 all the time with no front or rear sway bars. You just have to condition yourself not to swerve around things in the road and take interchanges at or below the recommended speeds.

I like my front sway-bar gone on the 2004 T4R I drive.
Works well off-road.

Driving a newer GX460, it is really nice how flat they are in corners and they don't bounce around like my T4R will, could not even think about disconnecting anything.
