So another issue that will by default prevent me from passing inspection next month: missing front passenger wheel stud.
I did an oil change and tire rotation over the weekend, and of course managed to knock a stud loose. (longer version; I actually screwed the stud up over a year ago, but managed to intentionally cross thread the lug back on to tightness, figuring I'd deal with it later. Now it's later).
I had originally tried to replace said stud when I realized that it was cross-threaded, but of course the local dealer Parts Department is closed on Sundays. So I went to AutoZone and grabbed a stud. Found that it didn't fit (way too wide). So I double checked the part number online for a 4runner and confirmed it was the correct part. So I went to an Advance Auto and found the same issue. The rear studs are WAY too wide to be used up front, if I recall.
So I used my angle grinder with a flap disc to grind down the cross threads on the original stud enough to force the lug nut back on and used the washer trick to remount it. It's been good for a few tire rotations, but it came loose again (I guess with the lug cross threaded I couldn't get the stud in tight enough).
So...big question...what the hell is the part number for a FRONT wheel/lug stud. I can't find it on CamelBack (they only list the rear for some reason, which I know is the wrong part number)
