I am going to have my entire windshield tinted. Anyone else had this done? My sides and back are tinted lightly. I thought this would help not being seen. Thoughts?

I had all the windows tinted on my wrangler in 2010, including the windshield to match the OEM rear windows. Loved it with the top down but at night and all the windows closed up I admit it was difficult to drive. I would say only do this if you have a sunroof (you can open. During the day), have 20/20 vision, and have upgraded your headlights (you'll need it), don't mind the extra attention (it's really noticeable on the windshield). Also remember if you get in accident (especially at night) it'll be real hard to prove your not liable if the insurance companies go to court since you purposefully impeded your vision.
I'd never do the windshield again if that helps. Don't get me wrong, it looks freaking awesome BUT the functionality of it just plain sucks!...

Thanks cgm. I was thinking 35%.
I havent had it done yet but got a price on doing a 70% layer on my windshield. I dont want to give up night vision but would like to get some of the uv protection benefits. If it were me I would get what I was planning on for the windshield on the side window and drive at night for a week or so and see how the effect was.

Are you planning on adding a roll down windshield option while you're at it? You will probably have trouble seeing in the day and drive like you're blind in the night.

Now, I'm not trying to tell you "OH IT'S STUPID," or "IT'S UGLY," because, IMHO, it would look pretty cool. My concern, however, is with the safety of: You, the people you drive with, and those on the road around you. I, personally, HIGHLY advise against this.

Stuck, is that the difference between what it is and the 35% or is the one on the left a lighter shade if tint?

I was under the impression most automotive glass already has good amount of UV protection built into it. I tend to notice that my Transition lenses don't like to work in my 4Runner even when I have sunlight on my face.

Had this done on most of my cars in the past sadly I now wear RX polarized sunglasses and no matter how high quality the tint I get the odd rainbow effect otherwise I'd have tinted the front on my latest T4R.
My only advice is don't go any darker then 50% or your going to have problems at night. It's not worth the safety risk or the extra looks from LEO's with anything darker. If your just doing it for less heat and sun protection on your interior Lumar makes a 70% tint which is ideal for a fully tinted setup IMO

BlackWorksInc, You may be right about the built in UV protection. I just thought I would do my best to protect the interior and it would be nice if it would cut just a little glare.
rcdeppen, thanks for the heads up on the polarized glasses deal. I didnt even think of that and that's what I wear too. I would go crazy if I always saw rainbows so ill definitely have to see if I can test look through something they have done.
The 70% I was looking at is made by 3M and is their Crystalline line. Crystalline Automotive Films - Clear automotive window film for cars, trucks - Crystalline - 3M US They also have a 90 but I figured that may be a waste and 70 seems like a good compromise.

50%. I would still advise against tinting the windshield at all, though. You should, if anything, use crystalline 90. It's barely noticeable from a visibility standpoint, and it's still legal.
