So my front wipers had some issues.
They would not run on low speed.
They would not turn off in the off position, would just freeze in position.
Intermittent and high settings both worked appropriately.
I removed the shroud and pulled the switch assembly. I had read another post about cleaning the contacts, which did not work. I decided to pull the unit apart which was actually pretty easy, 2 screws and a few plastic clip spots.
Once I took the unit apart I found the issue. Two small copper strips on a slide mechanism provide communication between the contact points. One of the strips was blackened and pitted in two spots. I removed the strips, sanded them lightly, and cleaned them with Brasso. Because I also noticed some wear on the small contact points, I swapped the strip positions on the slide mechanism. I cleaned the entire unit with electrical cleaner, regreased the contact points and mechanism with dielectric grease and reassembled the unit.
Works like new on installation. Fantastic! Saved me $130+ for a new switch.
