Picked up a 99 SR5 4x4 from a friend in central MO. His parents were the original owners. Victim of the pink milkshake, I purchased it for the price he paid at walmart for the tires. No roof rack or trailer hitch and I doubt if it ever been Offroad. He did have a lot of Maintenance records for it, dealer service, and had engaged the four-wheel drive occasionally 229k miles.
I had to change the trans/mount trans cooler in the driveway of my apt near work. Its the only spot of gravel left in this city.

B&M trans cooler, bypass radiator, new radiator, fix trunk lock, WeatherTech front mats, energy suspension front bushings, s*** Metra replacement antenna
The old transmission actually had the paint lifted off the inside of the trans pan due to all the moisture. I return the old transmission to the junk yard in Iowa for a core. Thanks to all the information here and on other websites I successfully remove the old transmission and put the new one in without issue just a hand from the old owner. It took longer than expected but I did it in the city on a gravel driveway and it wasn't that bad.
Flexplate inspection. Also put in a new rear main while i was down there.
Driving home in late January from Iowa I put her in a ditch. She fishtailed, i try to over correct and then hit the brakes like an idiot and she glided into the soft mud and land on the driver's side. It slid rearward for about 10 yards and missed a couple of large 4 by 4 posts. There was definitely black ice everywhere an officer was immediately on scene writing me a ticket for driving too fast for conditions. A passerby saw it happen and called nine-one-one. I had already put in a report to Triple-A but the cop called his tow truck driver and I paid cash but got a receipt. I shut the engine off within three to five seconds and I ended up driving the car home from the tow truck driver place. I had been on the road for about 700 miles and was only 6 miles from home. I was very upset and on top of it had to deal with a ticket which I was determined to fight.
I was impressed with the fact that I was able to drive the 4runner home without issue after this event. Then my friend who works at a body shop told me if I could find rust-free parts he can get it painted...and so the project continues. I needed a hood both fenders and both driver doors.
It was starting to get fixed....but....an important Free Ride date was close upon us. we button up the 4Runner the best we could to prevent rust and headed down to North Carolina from Michigan to try and catch some surf in May. the whole reason I bought this rig and was interested in it from the beginning was there is this 4 by 4 only jet ski Freeride North Carolina at Freeman Park. Without 4 wheel drive you cannot access the beach and therefore cannot fix your jetski if you break down or ride the good waves near the point
