Frozen brake calipers

Just a warning to everyone. I just did my second front brakes. (1st time @ 18k and now at 35k). Alot of NY city driving so I'm not surprised. What surprised me the most is that the lower inner piston on both sides are frozen and won't move. When I saw that Toyota put dual piston calipers on the front, I was impressed. NOW I'M PISSED!!! 35K miles and now I need two new calipers...thanks Toyota. Oh what a feeling my ass!!!

So now I have brand new pads all around except for the 2 front inners. I'll keep everyone posted on how much I'm going to spend on rebuilts. I'm sure that the OEMs are probably $400 each.

Here's the latest, rebuilt calipers were $200 each. Total job cost me $700 including front and rear pad. BTW - I got a special calipers, one is silver and the other gold. Hopefully this will be the last swap.

You are not alone. A few of us, including myself, have had frozen pistons. I got mine re-built ones for $ 80/each at Rockauto.

Went to do a brake job myself and found mine frozen as well (only 42000km/ 25000miles on the truck). Both front calipers, inner bottom pistons. Truck just came out of 3 year warantee so had to do a deal with Toyota to cover the cost: 60% Toyo, 20% dealer and 20% me (approx $1300 bill split 3 ways). The calipers from Toyo are aparently $500 ea, plus the labout to install... ouch!

Yes, I could have bought re-builts for $175 ea and put them in myself but the new ones from toyota have an extra seal in them to prevent this from happening (yes Toyota knows about this problem but they don't advertise that)

Anyway...check your calipers and get Toyo to replace while you still have a warantee!

The dealer charges a STUPID amount to do anything. Having said that, they were the cheapest for mounting and balancing my new Yoko tires
