Hi guys,
I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a set of 17'' Countersteer Type X rims for my 2015 TE. The only reservation I have is the relatively extensive negative offset (-10mm) compared to Toyota's stock which could place additional stress on the entire suspension. I'm not an expert on the subject and was wondering if someone here could tell me if I have a reason for concern.

Excellent question [MENTION=130008]Rebel_2015[/MENTION] . Thank you for asking, and I'm sorry it took us a little longer than usual to reply.

Throughout the years Toyota has used different OE widths and offsets on the 4Runner. For the most part, 1st generation thru 3rd generation 4Runners came equipped with fairly low offsets from the factory. 5th Gen 4Runners also have low-mid offset wheels from the factory. The 17x8" / -10mm offset Konig Countersteer Type X wheels are not too extreme of a fitment changed on these 4Runners, and as a result may put a slight amount of additional wear on the suspension, but likely nothing appreciable or that will really negatively impact the longevity of your 4Runner. We have had customers with negative offset wheels on their 4Runners with odometers well into the 200,000+ miles + range and they are still going strong.

The 4th generation 4Runner (2003-2009) did come with mid-high offset wheels from the factory (generally around a +30mm offset depending on the exact model). The 17x8" / -10mm offset Countersteer Type X is quite a big more aggressive than the factory offset wheels. However, the suspension and hubs are generally identical between a 4th Gen and 5th Gen 4Runner. Again, we have had customers with 4th Gen 4Runners with odometer readings well into the six figure range that have been driving with our negative offset wheels for a number of years and have not reported any issues with suspension or wheel bearings.

Anytime you install lower offset wheels or wheel spacers you will be adding extra stress to the suspension and the hub assembly. We do intentionally work to keep the weights low on our wheels to minimize the added stress (a heavier, lower offset wheel would add more stress than a lighter wheel with the same offset), and our customers (and us personally with our Toyota trucks) have not had any noticeable difference in suspension / hub / steering component life when installing our wheels.

Yeah it's additional stress. But seriously pretty minor, it's an inch offset from stock.

I went thru the thread and only seen one silver runner wearing bronze looked great but was a 3rd gen, anyone have pics to post of a silver 4th gen wearing bronze? Thanks!

Good question! We have done silver 3rd Gens, silver 5th Gens and various silver Tacomas with matte bronze, but I don't think I've seen matte bronze on a silver 4th Gen either. I can't seem to find any photos in my archive.

Maybe you can be the first one? And if not, matte black or gunmetal definitely look great on silver as well.
