1991 4Runner, SR5, Automatic 4WD, 235,044 miles, Tow Pkg, Dark Green, Cloth Interior, Sun/Moon Roof
3.0 V-6 — but read on. . .
This 4Runner has been my pride and joy since 1993. My go-to truck for work, play, and touring. It's one of the last model years designed as a working man's truck with a real tailgate; and I've used that a lot as a workbench, lunch table, and a park bench to view some stunning National Park scenery. I have been faithfully keeping it maintained for 20+ years, expecting to get 300k or more miles out of it. But the day I have dreaded has come where it has suffered some sort of serious engine failure — we think either a thrown rod or valve lifter/rod. I considered replacing the engine and keep going for another 200k, but my wife has convinced me that I deserve another, new-er one; so I found a sweet deal on a low mileage 2002.
Despite the engine, there's still a lot of value in this truck that the right buyer will be interested in. I have put over $15k of new work into it over the past 8 years, replacing and upgrading major components when needed. These all have relatively few miles on them (see the list below). All of it was done by one of the best rated service centers in my area, and with top-grade parts. Most of its life has been in sunny central Florida with no snow and no salt. All but for a couple of years it was garage kept. There is little to no rust. It's been a working and playing truck, so the interior, cosmetically, it's not a star; but it will clean up nicely.
If you have the skills, this truck would be a good-bones basis for a refurb project. Or if you already have your own project going, this might be a good source for some low-mileage parts. It has a beefed up and cooled down 4WD tran for heavy hauling in hot weather climes. I've had it listed on CL and have received some offers. But I thought I would post it here before accepting any of those in case a member here, with a real affinity for the T4R, had more interest and value for it.

This is a list of the major components replaced and upgraded since 2006, and the miles each has on it since it was installed. I have service tickets to verify all of this, I can send you copies. There are new-ish engine components, too — pumps, belts, hoses, ignition, etc; but seems kinda moot now.
