FS: 3d Printed SR5 Flare Caps $80 3rd gen

I am definitely interested in a set if these. If you do start printing them I'd live to buy a pair the vehicle looks a little ifd without them, and I do get a bit more mud on the sides. Although that doesn't look so bad ;-)

I'd also be down for a digital/step file. I could possibly print them at work if the boss man is in a good mood

Nope, [MENTION=175260]nopnotme[/MENTION] posted on the 24th that he was considering printing some of his own designs if we don't hear from D_farms soon. If he does then there are lots of people who would like a set.

The person I quoted (1st time poster ever) said he emailed him and wanted a set if he was still making them (he never made them).


If someone legit does start making these, I'm pretty certain they will start their own thread to let people know and not piggyback on a dead thread from a former member.

He said on FB yesterday he is done making them cause his high maintenance customers were too much to handle...essentially.

Supposedly he is the only one with the CAD to do it. He said on FB he bought the last factory one. I trashed mine (they got ripped off on the first dirt trip they went on), but Im sure some one out there can scan one and start printing them. Actually, I have a friend that could get it done if I had on in hand.

Why would I send anyone the file, literally just give away my hard work for free.

I stopped making these because quite frankly it wasn't worth the time spent. On top of that 90% of people that wanted them weren't capable of doing the finish work to get them textured and fitted properly, which meant spending a few hours of my own time getting them smooth after the 3d print and painted without blemishes. If you have ever worked with fiberglass parts you would know that the fitment is never perfect, and with this piece the original part is often warped, especially because the mating part is plastic, and a lot of the flares have been bumped into. The part I measured to make the model was probably warped too.

Anyways, Can we close this thread so I can stop responding to emails.

Sorry it went sour for you. Maybe there is a way to make these available in a way that benefits you and a party that is interested in manufacturing them.

The creativity and helpfulness of the 3rd gen community is what sets it apart.

I had also thought about doing this for many other parts on older vehicles with discontinued parts, but you are right. The labor involved to get it right and do the cad makes it so expensive that you barely break even. But if you do it for yourself the quality can be whatever you want.
