These look great ! One question and maybe I missed it in the thread but how much further above the shark fin is the tallest point of the Rack? Looks almost flush with the top of fin. Just wanted to check to see if I would still have clearance to get in my garage.

I didn't break out the measuring tape but eye balling it I would guess the top of the back rack around the shark fin area is no more than 2" higher than the shark fin itself.

Thanks. I have about 9" right now between stock roof rack and entry of garage. This is with stock suspension and stock 20" wheels. Going up to 33" and 3" lift will probably give me only 4". Then add another 2" for the new roof rack and getting close.

Also a pic of the rear lift gate clearance once open. I assume it works with a gobi ladder?

Got my gobi ladder installed. For those of you worried about compatibility, here are pics of the rear liftgate fully articulated and the amount of clearance between the ladder and the rack.

No contact whatsoever. Also, keep in mind that Alex created the rack with slotted mounting holes so the entire rack can be shifted forward or back plus or minus 1/2". If you find that the ladder and rack are too close for your comfort then know that there's some play there for you to move the rack forward or back.

Not to gear off topic but I can't believe we are advancing in all areas including technology and they can't alliterate the traffic issues.
I used to commute to Bev Hills from OC, man that drive would make anyone crazy

I don't know how you did it...This is WHY we have road rage in SoCal. I go to work early and leave late just so I can avoid as much of that crap as possible - and mostly take streets. Probably why no one spots my 4Runner...lol

Glad you posted this for 2 reasons. I'll need a ladder. But also, cause I can see the difference from the paint and the powder coat.

Now I'm debating if I'll want them to match.

Just paint the powder coated ladder...won't kill it (and be the cheaper option). You can at least match them. I am sure Drabbit will give you the paint brand he is using...

What stands out more in the pic is the not the difference of paint between the rack and ladder but between the the varying paint shades on the white T4R. Might just be the angle though it sticks out like crazy to me...

I only make a round trip drive from the OC to the valley maybe 1-4 times a month and i get frustrated each time.. idk how anyone does it daily. LA drivers suck ..

This is probably not what you want to hear, but both the rack and ladder are powdercoated, in black. The PC on the rack is semi-gloss and on the ladder, I'm not certain, but I'm guessing that it's a flat or satin sheen. I know Alex has it worked out with his powdercoater for semi-gloss only. To my knowledge the lack of choices was done to accommodate the cheapest possible cost for us, the buyers.

Perhaps you can give gobi a call when you purchase the ladder? I know they customize their roof racks to order. If they don't mass produce and stock these things, perhaps they'll customize your ladder paint. Another option is to get the rack w/out any paint and get the PC-ing done yourself locally. I'm fairly certain you won't be able to beat the price Alex has worked out. I've called around before and powdercoaters typically charge $75-100 / rim. I can hardly imagine what an entire rack is going to cost you.

How different is it? Well it's definitely noticeable. You will notice it most in the day time, or under a light, when one reflects more than the other. I have to admit it does bother me a little bit, but that being said, I do highly recommend PC-ing the rack. No dig on Alex's paint job, but PC-ing it really brings the rack to another level.

Another thing I forgot to mention earlier is that the price you are paying Alex for powdercoating is all going to the powdercoater. (Which I think is insane.) He's not charging anything for hauling your rack to and from the powdercoater, or time out of his busy schedule. Worst part is he has to drive through this mess.

I guess that just goes to show his commitment to getting the best possible price for his customers.

Have you used the rack yet and have you noticed any impact to the PC job? Premature wear, scratches, etc...

My fear is that this the rack will hit winter (snow) just about every weekend and if I see rust/scratches I want the option to re-coat. Tough to do that with PC and match the finish.

Don't get me wrong, I really like PC but not all PC jobs are equal. The best I have seen is probably from Shockworks. All others have scratched or dinged rather easily.
