FS 5th Gen. Full Length Roof Racks by drabbits

Personally with one exception I think rust issues have been overstated, any steel rack is going to eventually need maintenance.

I highly disagree. He should sell his racks raw so we can get them powder coated locally so if there is an issue, the local shop will fix it. His powder coater sucks

You were the exception if that helps... Your situation was not cool at all.

On lead times... Even shrockworks is straight forward when it's going to take forever to get a product out and they give a discount when they miss it.

Coming up on two weeks now with no response. It may be a one man operation but this is still a joke... I guess he just doesn't like money. Well on to the next one. His product may be awesome and it looks great but in my mind customer service has value as well.
Same here except that I ordered on July 2015. I received one notification from Alex back in January and called him end of February with no response. I'm hoping to have it before my trip to Oregon but by the looks of it that probably won't be happening.

Has anyone heard from Alex recently? I placed my order July 2015 and have yet to see my rack. I haven't had a response from Alex since February 11, 2016 via text despite my weekly texts.

Don't know if this helps at all but I am a mostly pretty happy drabbits customer. I ordered in May of 2015 and received in November. It was late but pretty much as expected from what I have seen in the forums. I had about a 50% response rate on emails, but better than expected based on the forums. The rack itself is beautiful, crafted by someone who cares. The powder coat has been through a Manitoba winter and is flawless despite a sausage-fingered owner. The only rust is on the hardware which is stainless steel. However, unless you have stainless dedicated tools (I dont) any marring left behind by your tools will rust on top of the stainless. I certainly have seen that on EVERY gobi rack I have seen. All in all, I feel the pleasure is worth the pain. That decision is up to you, but it is a unique product that suits my needs perfectly. If Alex could figure out the lead times and communications he would be ahead of anyone else I have seen. Genius often comes with a bit of quirk.

Ordered mine today...

Alex did respond quickly, apparently his email/server woes are fixed. I don't see paying more for less product. Over 900 for the Front Runner rack is really not worth it.
I debated, since there seems to be an element of risk.

looking forward to the rack's arrival. Funny thing is, my wife saw this (for her truck btw) and pretty much had to have it! She knows good style when she sees it.

Sent inquiry to get in line. Don't mind the wait. Quality over turnaround time unless you absolutely must have it TODAY! Hehe.

I would love to order one and can live with wait time. What I'm having a difficult time with is having to pay in full up front. Then wait up to 10 months to see a finished product. A lot can happen in that 10 months and trying to recover nearly $1000 after that long, should something happen, could be nearly impossible.

I’m looking for two factory cross bars for 2011 4Runner limited. Any one have them for sale? I have one of the drabbits on order but need the bars now.

This rack looks like exactly what I need. Unfortunately I can't wait that long, I need something before my big Nevada trip in late July.

I ordered mine July 2015 and was willing to wait since I had a newborn and didn't have any trips planned until May and July 2016. We are now heading up to Oregon May 19 and I have yet to receive my rack. I have called, texted and emailed Alex with no response.

I'm sure the rack will be excellent but this is a heads up for those that need the racks asap as the leads time are a ROUGH estimate.

To me that is unacceptable. It doesn't matter that he is a one man show and has a business running out of his garage. It also doesn't matter that he is a forum member. The lack of communication is inexcusable. Especially since you paid him $1000 already for the rack. If he can take your money then he has a responsibility to at least communicate with you and provide updates. I've kept up with this thread and have heard excuses like how personal things came up which he couldn't get back to some customers in a timely manner. The moment he accepted your money it was a business deal not a friendship. He has a responsibility to provide timely customer service and good turn around time. I'd be very concerned and upset if I paid someone and could not get a hold of them. When it comes time I'll definitely be looking elsewhere for a rack due to issues with communication and turn around time.
