I think the disc drive. If you have JBL you already have the amp. Not for sure as I only have the non JBL and I need the amp also.

forgive my clueness question but where does one enter the CD/Tape things? Does the front face tilt up and out of the way to reveal the holes?

Yes the faceplate flips down and that's were you put in the cd and tape.
