These two brown cargo covers are in good condition overall considering they are salvage yard finds. I find these in about 4% of the 4Runners I look at in salvage yards. I quickly wiped these down with water and they look like what you see here in the photos. There are still some relatively minor stains and marks that may come out with soap or another cleaning solution.

Make sure that you have the brackets for the square mounts - the round brackets will not work. 1996-2000 should have square brackets and 2001-2002 should have round brackets. I switched mine out so don't just go by the model year. Both of these are the brown cargo covers - they are not light tan. If you want to see the color difference look at the photos where the end caps mount in the brackets. My brackets are light tan and the square ends on these are brown.

All 4 tabs that connect to the headrests are there. These covers retract like they should. Everything is complete with these cargo covers.

Before you buy please make sure that you know the difference in color between the tan and brown cargo covers. Below is a pick of a brown insert in a tan bracket. I have 3 brown cargo covers for sale, but no tan ones. Two of them are listed above in this thread... I haven't had time to add the 3rd one yet. As far as the shape of the mounts all 96-00 4Runners should have the square mounts and 01-02 should have the round mounts.

Since UPS damaged one of these I am now shipping the end caps in a separate box from the shade. The end caps come off with 3 screws. If the end caps are packed well and shipped in a separate box they will not get damaged. The reason these often get damaged (besides rough handling by UPS) is because of the way they are mounted on the ends of the cargo cover. The edges of the bracket inserts are susceptible to damage when these are shipped with the square end caps installed.

Those things are spring loaded, is your customer going to have to reset the spring and reassemble them?

There is a write-up on the 3rd Gen forum on how to reset the springs and reassemble the cargo cover.

Shipping the end caps separately was suggested by one of our fellow forum members who purchased one of these several weeks ago. To me it seems like a better solution than having one or two broken end caps. Since I've started selling these I've heard from several forum members who have received cargo covers with broken end caps in the past. I don't know of a way to package them to prevent breakage because these shipping companies simply don't care and will not honor the insurance.

I don't know all of the answers as to the best way to ship some of these relatively rare OEM 4Runner parts (In this instance rare means Toyota is not making them anymore, and there is no aftermarket), but for me the solution is not to trust the shipping companies with these parts. Of course refusing to ship certain items is always an option, but for me that is only after I have explored all of the other solutions.

I think I figured out how to successfully ship a Sport hood to California... we will find out if it arrived intact soon. I ordered a custom box for it and I think that helped a lot. I received a Sport hood from California that was undamaged. I think one of the reasons it arrived intact was because Brent and I decided to use Greyhound. If I can figure out a technique to safely ship a rare OEM part I will share that with the forum. For all I know I'm probably not the one who figured it out first. If I try something that turns out to be a failure I will share that as well.
