I saw the other snorkel thread but it's a mess. I know ARB won't be releasing one, but what are the chances of alternatives?
Haven't had the chance to explore the bay/fender area in 5th gens yet but is there any possibility of internal routing? From an aesthetic standpoint I much prefer the 3rd gen style..maybe I'll sing a different tune when I see it on a built truck.

you are 100% correct in that the internal plumbing looks much better. There also seems to be more than enough room to make it work.
The problem lies in production cost of multiple components. Molds are $8-$18k. so one mold for the snorkel running down your fender is expensive enough, but a second mold to allow plumbing inside the fender will add massive expense to an already underwhelming product.
Before i did this group buy, I spoke with the Current US rep from ARB and with the Owner of Ironman Offroad. its hard to justify spending close to $40k developing a product with such a hideously niche market. The company would have to sell more than 100 snorkels to even cover R&D, not to mention hardware and packaging. There is not likely currently 100 5th gen owners that would install a snorkel even if it was $100. The 4th gen never got one despite being around for the last 12 model Years and in production 7. there are a few dozen of us that wheel and modify out 4runners, but the fact is there will never be enough of us to justify one of the big names making this snorkel for a North American only model that is scheduled to be extinguished after 2016.
so in short, even though this thing looks like a slug on your fender, and its fiberglass, it's real and available for now. the rest is up to chance.

How are they coming along? Have they shipped from Shanghai yet? Thanks.
They did in fact already leave Shanghai (last Friday to be exact) I have not gotten the release paperwork from our broker yet, so I not sure where they are sitting at the moment. If I had to guess I would say about half way across the Pacific.
I asked them to lack them well, and from what I saw, it looks like they did.
As soon as I have the paperwork, I will have an ETA and I will share it here.
There is one extra that I added to the order, I bought it so if one of us had a damaged part or something we would have a spare. Since I do not have a relationship with this company yet, and we have no idea about parts availability, I took it upon my self to try to protect everyone's investment the best I can.
If all goes as planned the spare one will be for sale.
