fuel door cable ?

I have never had issues with my fuel door before today, I pulled into get gas and my fuel door would not open. I did not want to pry it and had enough gas to get home and back to the gas station so, I pulled over to the minimart to get some wrench lubricant ( beer) pulled the lever and then grabbed the cable and gave it a bit extra pull and the fuel door opened. so I left it open and drove back to to fuel up. When I got back to the house, sure enough the only way to open is to grab the cable.
So I must have some slack or stretch going on. I wont get a chance to look till tomorrow, but is there away to take slack out of the cable ?

From my experience and other members is that the door cap has a clip that actually breaks over time. Once you pull the latch to open the fuel door the clip acts as a spring to pop the door open past the lock. I think since you pryed it open you mightve damaged or stretched out the cable in addition to the broken clip

no I did not pry it. No there is no broken or bent parts in the fuel door area. So I just pull the lever and when the lever is up I reach under and pull the cable a bit more. Then the fuel door pops open like it should. Still have not climbed under the dash to see if there is any kind of adjustment

I'm not really good at explaining things, but I do know you can get to the cable directly behind the gas cap area from the back gate area. Just a couple screws and you can pop some trim back and get a clear view of it.

This is really long because I'm doing some out loud thinking. The bottom part is probably the most useful:

It does look possible to access from the outside gas cap area, there's a spring like doo-dad holding that gasket in, that's always fun. The black part in the pic is that gasket.

This is from the interior cargo area side...not the clearest pic but maybe it'll be enough of a visual. If you want to know what has to come off to access via that side let me know. It's up to 5 interior panels, a light and a couple of holders.
Top cable comes from the release up at the front, bottom part is the actuator.

Unfortunately for this thread mine wasn't broken or stretched, I just took pics because it was near a project I was working on. It does not appear to be easily adjustable at that point, but I don't know that as fact. I just got done putting all those panels in last weekend too. Not in a hurry to answer that question now!

You know, the front end of the cable is much easier to access for just a look/see and according to Toyota the handle is a separate part but I don't know if the cable is adjustable there. It is, however, replaceable.
