Fuel door help.

The hinge for the fuel door is broken and barely holding on. The door is riveted in there, so I am wonder what the best way to deal with this is? Should I try to get/make a new pin and make that work, or is it pretty easy to drill the rivets out and replace the entire assembly?

Thanks for the input.

The easiest method would be to replace the whole assembly. It is around $50 but needs to be painted. www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/166515-broken-fuel-door-hinge.html

Is it the rivets that are giving you trouble or the hinge pin, or both? If just the rivets, drill the rivets out. Measure the hole where the rivets were located, and buy new aluminum or stainless ones at Home Depot. A decent rivet gun only costs about $15. So for less than $20 you've repaired it with no need for painting a new door. If the hinge pin too, perhaps bring the old one to an auto parts place and see if they have something that can be used as a replacement.

I don't understand how paying $50 for a new door and then having it painted is the easiest method. Drill the rivets out. A lot of people had trouble getting the pin out to replace it, but if you can find a way to do that then I would like to know how you did it because I have to fix my fuel door as well.

My problem is the actual pin is broken. Is it possible to change just the pin? Is the pin something that can be obtained?
