Fuel Door Spring Replacement

Ok although this is not difficult at all, this is my first writeup.

I searched and didn't really find anything, so this is for anyone that needs the part number and know how to replace it in ~10mins

Problem: Fuel door doesn't open up when you pull the cable, BUT the cable is still in working condition

Solution: Replace the the fuel door spring

Part Needed:

1x77360-0E010 - Costs ~2-3$ depending where you order from

Tools Needed:

8mm socket and or phillips screw driver - I recommend the socket
Flat head screwdriver

Step 1:

Open the fuel door (whatever way you rigged it up since being broken) - My tab on the fuel door was just bent it so the release cable never caught it, so essentially it was open all the time



Heres the problem:


Step 2:

Remove the 2 8mm bolts



Everything apart:



Step 3:

Move hinge towards door, pry the old clip out with flat head and replace with new spring





Important: if you bent the tab back before, re-bend it out so it catches the release cable

Step 4:

Enjoy not having to bring a screwdriver or anything to your next fill up !

I just did mine a few days back, I have to agree with you, it probably been easier if I removed the door

I just did mine. A careful look at the new one and I did the swap on the car in ten seconds. No need to pull the door. Just pry with small screwdriver right next to vertical hinge pin. Pops right out.

To install the new one, engage the hook tab first and push on the other side by the vertical hinge pin. Pops right in.

I agree now that it could be done without taking it off. I guess this is a bit over the top then... :ybrick: haha

Mine was on there pretty solid and I didn't feel like fumbling around in the cold with it or gouging myself/the truck. So I took it all off, cleaned it up inside and reinstalled it.

Certainly makes for better pictures.

While you can do it without removing the door I removed mine. Made it easier to clean up the dirt and crud in the filler area and on the back of the door.

Mine is a goner. Isn't even there.

Is the probelm the dirt or is it just that springs fatigue and break in half?

It's a metal "V". Breaks in half right at the point.

Oops, been a while since I replaced one hwell:

I didn't know what to look for until I saw pictures.
Seems some break at the metal V.
Others break at the plastic.

I knew it was a simple fix. But this post was motivation to just get it done!
