Fuel filter vent

At 165K miles, I happened to notice the fuel filter looked original and when I took it off, black gasoline spilled out.

I picked one up from AutoZone, installed it, and it leaked. I searched and tried everything I could find that worked for others. Finally, after day 3, the 14mm flare wrench slipped and the nut on the line was stripped. It absolutely wouldn't go any tighter and it still leaked.

I replaced the filter with OEM and replaced the line, no more leaks.

This was the most frustrating simple job I can remember.

If it makes you feel any better about things, you are not the first person to report leaking aftermarket filters. I believe the fix last time was a new OEM filter.

Do you have a part number on the OEM fuel line you replaced? Looking for after the line from the fuel filter to the nearest break.

Never overtighten flare fittings! This include brake lines. I've done 3 fuel filters and almost never get them to seal properly on the first try. If it leaks, loosen the nut, readjust, and tighten again. It also doesn't help that you're trying to work as quickly as possible since the fuel is dripping out.
